Come on guys, we're all homies.

Looks like maybe they're targeting the headers on the Sky template. Private headers are looking really good right now. CIA files are still sexy, but probably not as safe as using a private header as a condom. But it seems at this point it's not worth the risk to do it raw with the public headers, lest a mistake (ban) happens. Wonder if using a .3dz (or even 3ds) of a different region is still safe.

I have japanese consoles, and im planing to get Monster Hunter 4U cart, and make a dump of it, then rename to 3DZ and play online....i hope i dont have any problems :/

I honestly think the day(s) of reckoning will be later this week when MH4 drops.....if Nintendo cares about online integrity and keeping pirates off their network we will see mass bannings around that time.

Curious about this also. Going to rip my own copy and run it using a different header (still private) so I can still play with a friend. If I get banned, I'll just get a N3DS even though I don't want to just for online games.

It seems all pokemon related to me, my guess is they are standing firm with regard to 1st party software.

Judging by the games that they all have in common (for the most part), SSB4, MK7, ORAS, I'd say you might be right on the money. It seems they're targeting 1st party software with the public headers that are being used in the Sky3DS template. There could be other factors, but given the evidence we have, it's a pretty good assumption.

I'm still curious as to what caused this ban wave. The cheating in various games or the recent sucess in the hacking community and flashcards being sold?
It was likely a reaction to the wider availability of flash carts, yeah. IE Gateway updated to be working on everything from 4.x to 9.2, and Sky3DS working on all new firmware. If the scene had stayed more low-key, IE just the few carts being available and only if you're on 4.x, Nintendo probably wouldn't have cared. It was bound to be blown wide open at some point, though.

Well I think that this pretty effectively stops Sky users. Or at least the majority of them. They didn't want their new console to be compromised. It seems to be stopping quite a few Gateway users too. But I'm sure most people are in sysNAND 9.3+ so can't use Gateway. This could remove quite a big part of the pirating community. And we can't really get mad at them for that because, well, that's their job.

So now we keep waiting and viewing the reports. Is CIA safe? Are private headers safe? Which is safer? Who will be banned next? Tune in for the next couple of days and see for yourself!

the safe thing is to not go online
but, personally, I'd say CIA>Private header>Public header (get banned)

unless they crossreference NNID purchased cia before connecting online and if you play a cia you have not bought -> BAN.. and if there is somehow a database with the headers for each produced game, if the header doesnt match the played title, ban.
i really want to play MH4 online, but i'm not sure if i'll be going cia or 3dz with private header.

CIA>Private header>Public header
Why say this? It looks to others that Private>CIA>Public

After all, CIAs don't use headers and it's been brought to my attention that it wouldn't be very hard (or take up many resources) for Nintendo to check if you purchased the game via eshop when you play online. If you're using a CIA file and they see that you didn't pay them on the eshop, busted. Where as private headers would be harder to detect. But yeah, we dunno.

One more question to anyone who was banned and have Pokemon... Do local battles still work?

Let's not confuse people though, there aren't any cases of CIA/mismatched header bans yet. Although what you're saying is entirely possible and likely to happen in the future.

so the big question with the headers is, are they RNG or actually tied to a production batch of games.
the cia check is an easy one so not very safe (from 9.6 on most likely)

I wonder if we could unban these ppl, like was done with wii bans, its interesting tho that support doesnt unban this time.... I'd call in and say you bought a used 3ds maybe and that you cant get online?

only way i see a banned user getting out of this mess is using an modified unbanned NAND

With private header they just have to check if a header was used with two different games
Dunno how complex that would be. Since if you're using private dumps in a smart way you'd never have to use it two times at once.

Are you saying that people can just restore a NAND backup of their system? Has anyone tried?
