This just might be the first MMORPG I'll play, and especially one of the only games/gaming services that requires a monthly fee. TES is always great, I loved the previous games so much, got so much content out of it. This is something different, but still has the same feeling. Not to mention they worked a whopping 7 years on it, that's amazing.

So, how long before the inevitable, desperate scramble for F2P? Six months? A year?

I've only heard one person talk about the game and according to him it was somewhat meh compared to other MMOs out there, but that was in a different MMO, so said person might have been biased.

Did they ever announce if they were going to get rid of the subscription fee for the console version of the games?
IIRC, they wanted to charge like $15 a month to play online, ON TOP of whatever subscription fee you play (Xbox live gold or PSN)

Can't wait for this game, I just hope that the game still plays out like Oblivion/Skyrim and not like the majority of MMO's ( WoW ect )

I will definitely be giving this a try when it is released :)

Zoom the camera out so you can see your character, boom MMO. That's what ESO will be like.

I hope it plays more like Skyrim than oblivion. I gave up on oblivion a hour in. It's leveling system seems to be an over complicated mess like Marrowind's. Skyrim's a far better improvement.

Glad it worked out for you--but myself and numerous others really resent the simplification Bethesda's been putting its games through. Thank Talos for mods.

Can't wait for Elder Scrolls 6, where the handholding is so direct all you need to do is hold forward and press a button :(

Pay 2 play stomps the shit out of the awful nickel and diming of F2P.
I'd sure as fuck rather pay $15 a month for the whole game instead of 100+ a month to try and buy the enjoyment back through a cash shop.

I played WoW for 5 years, and SWTOR until they went F2P ...

1.) Don't compare anything to WoW. They've been refining that game for a decade and have had a LOT of time to work out the bugs and streamline every aspect. When WoW first came out, it was a disaster. I was there. Looting took over 3 minutes because of server lag, and that lasted A MONTH before they fixed it. But people still looked at SWTOR and compared it to WoW's sleek performance. It was a very unjust comparison.
2.) 7 years of development and cash spent mean nothing. SWTOR had, what, $300 million spent and 6 years in development? It was an awesome game that got destroyed by them skimping on the finer details, like interface customizing (by the time they released it, it was too late). They released way too soon. If they waited a year to release, it would not be F2P right now. But that's what we've come to expect from EA Games.
3.) Subscription games have a lot of perks. For one, microtransactions everywhere you look are annoying as hell. Secondly, they end up costing more than a regular subscriptions. Third, subscriptions scare off a lot of idiots and the community is generally stronger and more committed. That means less childish antics and annoyances. Lastly, $15 is nothing. Even if you're a student. That's like 1 dinner entree at a family restaurant. A small price for the benefits it brings.

... I'm not really defending this game, so much. I stopped MMO's when my son was born so I won't partake. I was just saying there's nothing wrong with their model and to give them a chance.

The only MMO I will hype myself of doesn't have a class however have skills(500-1000+?) but have to be learned from npcs or monsters through quest, not fetch quests but actual fighting them and beating them.

No leveling system. It depends upon you which path you take. You start off being able to use daggers and casual clothing. The more you use a weapon, magic, armor or clothing, the more you can do with it.
e.g. Using fists will make your punches stronger, faster and you take less damage on your hands. using axes more will make you hit faster and carry heavier axes.
Wearing light clothing would make you evade better(rolling, back jump, parkour maybe). Wearing heavy armor would make you more resistant to damage.
You can wear anything, mage with full body armor, but the amount of exp you get from wearing
heavy armor/taking damage with it/dodging with it/moving with it is separate and calculated separately, which means simply standing and casting with it won't make you stronger with it, and heavy armor lowers move speed means you would still be easy target when casting.
Though that doesn't mean you can't be a mage/holy/dark knight.

No point skill system, but the more successful you are at using that skill.
e.g. quick-scoping(enhances scope in time) passive skill for snipers gain experience the more you quick-scope and successfully hit.

Skill would also branch off depending on how you use it.
e.g. when casting a fire ball, you can release it even if it's only half the channeling time resulting in weaker fireballs, however with enough times you do this, you would gain the ability to chain-channel fireballs so next casting would have lower channel time for the damage dealt.
Not releasing a fireball even it is fully channeled and use it as some weapon you wave around would make you learn orb of fire. it floats around you and have charges/health/expiration time.

Since everything would be available to the player, there's also the level down. The less you put your skills into practice, the more you experience exp loss. The exp loss however is way slower than the speed you gain it.
You can only stick to a certain build at a time. When you decide to go back and be an archer again however, because you're tired of being a mage, gaining experience will be easier. or better, you didn't even go full mage and shoot magical arrows instead.

But I can only dream.
