I have lied to all of you. I am deeply sorry.

Eh this didn't really affect me at all. Every time I bought a used EA game, EB Games always put the code in there, no matter how old the game was. You know, it actually sorta seems like EA is under the restructuring aspect in the company's career. If any game needs a reboot, it's EA.

IGN is blocked on my work computers. Can someone summarize this for me? By online pass do you mean season pass or multiplayer activation?

This decision from EA is pure damage control from all the "worst company" press they've received. But it's a good move. I won't deny them that. If they want to keep moving forward they can make frostbite to work with the Wii U.

In some ways I reckon they could have kept a lid on it until E3 (though I believe their annual statement is out in a couple of days) as that would have been a great announcement for their conference, also some news worth hearing to come out of E3.

Still the end of stupidities like this are always welcome.

Great, now I only have 99 reasons to hate EA and hope it dies in a fire instead of 100. Showing progress, fellas!

For me, all that's left for them now to do to now is stop cutting off servers way too early so 12 months down the line their games stop working properly and then they will have made progress!

I managed to find a brand new copy of the Simpsons for my lad the other day and even that server is taken down. I mean....really?

the big companies want to build a large subscriber base. It is not for their decision, it is wall street decision. The investors are not used to ultra-variable revenues, that's why they encourage its companies to do this kind of shit.

I'll not be surprised if EA try another strange move to have subscribers. Something like "pay $ 9,99 monthly to have Madden/Fifa always up to date" instead of today's "buy Madden/Fifa this year, and buy again next year, then you buy it again and again every single year until you die."

I would love to see someone attempt a true game subscription model for games like this but at the same time I am not sure -- I recall some of the old football manager games occasionally released updates to mirror the states of the leagues that by necessity (it is extremely unlikely your fantasy game mirrored the real world) wiped your save and put it in the same position as the real world. To that end it would not always be the same game and that could change things fairly fundamentally.
To that end "I will kick your arse at Fifa" means less than it might and that could be a problem.

Well, if next gen consoles have the console locked games, there would be no point in having the online passes anyways since only one person can play the game!

This is damage control for EA. They know they will be pushing always-online DRM down our throat with future games so they are tossing a small bone to its enraged customers.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
