Ok so I recently just downgraded my wii from the official 10/23 update to be able to install wads and such...

I installed DVDx app and installed the "invisible channel" and ran the mplayer app.
I went to play the dvd and it began to read and then stopped. I tried this numerous times, but it hasnt changed the result.

Am I doing something wrong?

There was a version of DVDx written for the backup launcher that doesnt work with mplayer - unfortunately it is a lot more popular due to the fact that it can play copied games - so you may have got that instead ?

Look for a different copy of DVDx id think

I tried the mplayerwii version .07 that supports dvds...

I'm wondering if I cant just put a normal DVD (like talladega nights) into the wii and play it....
what Do I need to do that?

The only thing that I know of is MPlayer DVDLib version. Even though I installed DVDX fine, I think there is a problem with this version of MPlayer working on widescreen TVs.

I have a normal SDTV. 4:3.

I use the mplayer and select "play dvd" and it starts to spin then just stops.
I let it set for like 10 minutes and nothing happens so I hit home and it takes me back to HBC.

Just to let you know, it won't play retail DVD movies, I believe you have to remove protection (specific protection? Not sure) from your retail DVDs and burn them. Also, you might have to go through a little trial and error. I have tried certain movies with different DVD-Rs, some have worked and some have not.

It doesn't like dvds with multiple menus etc...it gets confused and buggy...Quite allot of dvds work but personally i wouldn't recommend playing from the wii, rather use your normal dvd data player/recorder

Mplayerwii dvd support, doesn't support real dvd video files, only data files e.g. avi

Well, with mplayerdvdlib with DVDX installed on cIOS249, I popped in my retail Aqua Teen Hunger Force DVD and it worked just fine, pretty fast loading, no errors.

Is this something that's been tested? The differences between loading DVDX on different cIOSs?
