i need to purchase a new writer and am stuck between Pioneer DVR-116DBK 20x Internal IDE DVD+/-

and the Sony DRU-190A 20X DVD±RW DL & DVD-RAM IDE internal -

any help would be appreciated

Personally speaking, I've been using the Sony DRU-820A for a year now, with absolutely NO trouble out of it whatsoever.

Sony gets my business, and my vote.

I have been using a Sony AD7590 in my HP laptop and the AD7604A in my Dell Laptop and both of those work great.

I also have the Sony External DRX-840U and it works great as well.

As far as I know, the external is a rebadged Samsung. But I am not too sure about the two laptop drives.

All my drives are able to be booktyped without any custom firmware. Just use imgburn or nero.
