Duke Nukem Forever lives?

You've waited 13 years already, so what's another few months? Reports are suggesting that the comically delayed and subsequently cancelled Duke Nukem Forever has been resurrected, with Borderlands developer Gearbox tasked with taking the project to the finishing line.

Having begun in 1997, development on Duke Nukem Forever had seemingly halted after the game's development staff at 3D Realms were let go in May last year. Due to 3D Realms failure to complete the game it was sued for breach of contract by publisher Take-Two, a matter that was resolved earlier this year.

But that's not where Duke Nukem Forever's story ends, it seems. A report on Kotaku suggests that Duke is alive and that Gearbox would be taking the game to completion. Sources at both Take-Two and Gearbox are remaining tight-lipped, although it wouldn't be the first time that the Borderlands developer was associated with the cigar-chomping action hero; Gearbox was outed as the company behind Duke Begins, a project that was scrapped before it ever saw the light of day.

The reports claim that more could be revealed at September's PAX, and that a playable demo could even emerge as soon as this year.

Ouch! For the sake of Gearbox, I hope these rumors remain rumors. The game's a running joke, and obviously has been for a while now. Not sure what kind of light that would put them in if they were the ones credited with the game's development.

1. This game will have a major release.

2. Everyone that claims to be a hater will play it. Along with all the long-time fans.

3. It's going to be a mediocre game at best.

4. We will all look back on this and laugh.

So lets just sit back, relax and let this whole thing roll out as it's meant to (come on now, this game HAS been a joke for 13 years, but we're all a little excited to see what it actually looks like), and run to our favorite store, online shop, digital distribution center (cough steam cough) or torrent site the day its released.

I loved that game, including the first two. I used to play 3D with a friend of mine, becaus we couldent control both the directionals and the mouse at that time (before the W A S D key setup was adopted)

Wasn't there one guy who preordered it from GameStop when it was first announced, and still has the receipt? If it actually is released that'd be a hell of a thing to pull out at the line and watch the guy have to call over the store manager and the manager have to call higher-ups to confirm it... all while you're the first person in line and everybody else is waiting behind you for them to confirm a 13 year old pre-order.
