Duh hell?

I just noticed my URL bar on EOF reads:

http://gbatemp.net/f8-the-edge-of-the-fmarum

What the heck is "fmarum"? If you still have "forum" there, replace it with fmarum. How the heck does GBATemp know to go to this forum if it's entered incorrectly?

EDIT: I just entered: http://gbatemp.net/f8-the-edgdrtje-odyfjf-tfhhe-fmarshgum and it still brought me to the EOF

I think the "f8" is the important part, and everything behind the "-" is disregarded by the forum software and is only there for our convenience.

EDIT: it's "f8-", http://gbatemp.net/f8 gets me a 404, http://gbatemp.net/f8- gets the EoF.

But yeah the f# is the forum number. Same thing for threads, with t#.

It's generally referred to as making "pretty" URLs, and lots of sites do it, with or without the identifier. I edited the copy-pastes section of my site to use URL rewriting recently, actually.
