I just picked up a DSi XL for my lil girls bday. It's running 1.4U. I have an ACEKard with 1.7.1 - everything is great.

I setup the DS's WiFi (I'm not talking about the AK's Wifi plugin) and, just for fun, told it to check for system updates - it said that there was one!! I immediately canceled because I don't want to screw anything up. Are there updates that download OTHER than system updates? (games updates, applications updates, etc). When it told me there was an update available it gave me the option to click Next - will that automatically start loading or will it give me more info? I REALLY don't want to screw this up. Thanks

Mwehh...
Afaik, there is no update.
I did that with my DSi more than once, and it said there was an update.
So I updated (didn't have my ak2i back then

)
Still 1.4 firmware -.-
Nothing changed, improved or whatever...
I even vaguely recall that it said that there was nothing new o.o
What's the point in updating to the same firmware xD

Ok...I ran it. It downloaded about 800KB of data (according to dd-wrt's monitor) then rebooted. It still says 1.4U. I ran system update again - and it said that there was an update available. Clicked next. It connected and checked but this time I got "This version of the system software is up-to-date". So SOMETHING updated...just not sure what exactly. I should have captured it and made it available to the group...but alas I'm a lazy SOB.

Thanks, as always

There's a semi update that barely does anything and doesn't change the version number. It doesn't affect flashcarts, so you can update if you want.

And boudincaca is right, the update menu will always say "There is an update available" no matter what. So it'll only tell you if there's no update only when you agree to update.

Although, the DSi always says theres an update when their really isn't, there once was an update released on Feb 2010, but it was a rather small update, and finished in about 4 seconds, the DSi still read 1.4 but I noticed no changes. It does not affect flashcarts in any way though.

    I wonder if that was the point of game streaming
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    But it's a dead end
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @Psionic Roshambo, people who cant download it can still play the game
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

    Did you feed the hamster in your internet router? It prob died and is running slow now.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa, why did you start saying my pc has a hamster in the first place?

    I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

    also @BigOnYa im making some progress on my gdevelop project, implemented various mechanics

    They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

    Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa, although the bullets are a bit buggy

    @BigOnYa,
    and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

    There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

    That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
