Heck no...
I love my two DS Lites too much, even though my old red one has a cracked hinge (Got it a clear case to use as a prosthetic though
), to ever warrant getting a DSi XL, let alone a normal DSi period.
Bigger screen....oh whoop de freaking do. Now we can play Final Fantasy VI, Phantasy Star 0, Mario Kart, Super Mario 64 DS, etc with twice the blurriness!
Again, no backwards compatibility. I still tell you people, the GBA is not entirely dead yet. I still see customers at my work playing on em quite frequently!
I also have no use for a wimpy 3 megapixel camera.
I have 2...no wait... I have 4 working DS's.
-Two electric blue DS Phats both of which I still have the chargers, styli, accessories, for. Both have perfectly intact hinges, and keep in mind I really didn't treat these two as well as I treat my DS Lites.
-I also have 2 DS lites as stated above, one Crimson/Black with a prosthetic hinge/case, and one Cobalt/Black which has no issues at all. I need to get some hori screen protectors for them sometime. Legit ones of course.
I have a ton of game boy advance games, many of them being imports. In addition many of those imports are no longer available widely, or even hardly at all.
So, no I guess I won't be getting a DSi XL [LL] I haven't the use for a system that claims to be superior just because it has..
-Bigger screens
-A bigger stylus, and so help me if you take this out of context I'll smack you with my hells tomohawk
-Colored pictochat (Who in their right mind ever uses this!?)
-A pathetic little 3 megapixel camera (I have a 12 Megapixel olympus digital camera)
-Downloadable games/DSiWare (In all seriousness, I see nothing in the entire collection of DSiWare that even minutely entices or interests me, this is my Wii's purpose)
-The ability to play music (I have an Ipod Touch for this)
-The ability to manipulate and view photos (I have built in viewers for my 3 operating systems on my Mac (OSX/Win7-32 bit/Ubuntu Linux 9.04 32-bit), and Gimp serves its purpose well as a photo manipulator, as does F-Spot in Linux. I also have Moonshell and a flashcart for this reason
-The ability to browse the web (I have a Macbook with 3 operating systems on it, as well as two spare desktop computer towers, if I'm going out I am generally not going to be browsing the web. If I am going somewhere where I need web access (Such as college), then thats what I will bring my Mac for
-SD Card Slot (Oh wow Nintendo you think you're so awesome and all that because you implemented SD card support on your system! Guess what, most devices already had this way before you did, so it's nothing special, and worth overlooking IMO
-A load of other features I may not be aware of, but could probably honestly care less about.
-Flashcart blocks (Let me ask you this, I have an M3DS Real, and an Acekard2 on the way. Why would I want something that could potentially block them?)
In my opinion it's inferior to me.
Ninty should have called this the DSi XF [LF], or the DSi Xtra Fail [Lotsa Fail]. It fails even moreso than the normal DSi, which to me was failure to begin with.
So, yeah all of you out there getting a DSi XL [LL], you may have the advantage of being future-proof in terms of the DSi's hardware (If the DSL is ever discontinued), however you also have the incredibly annoying inconvenience of having to wait for fixes around flashcart blocks implemented by Nintendo, while GBATemp is assaulted with millions of posts such as Fix 4 DSi system menu V9001.MOREFAIL, and literally dragged to it's knees in terms of accesability and stability. OH NOEZ!
Us who stick with the DS Lites and DS Phats may at some time be left unsupported in terms of the DS's hardware, but at least most of us don't have to worry about flashcart blocks, as the DS Lite and DS Phat were never intended or designed to receive OS updates from Nintendo via Wifi. So we can enjoy our ability to play pi......
..I mean wonderful, delightful, awesome, and feature-packed homebrew programs without interuption!
