With the DS generation just about over, I can't imagine anymore firmware updates for the DSi & XL that are really do anything but block flashcarts. Can the DSi be set to not allow firmware updates, AND it won't nag you about it all the time??? Sorry, last DS I owned was a DSLite.

    I forgot
I believe if you have parental controls engaged it won't ask you (or maybe that was for the 3DS, I forget..)

Yeah, going forward I imagine the online experience with DS games is going to be a wasteland, but that wasn't really the way I was hoping to avoid the update issue. I mean, so far most of the main carts on the market have worked around the updates ... so it's not like I'm reeeally concerned that an update's gonna come along to shut all the carts out and it actually works. Just, you know ... in case.

DS games don't ask you to update in order to play online, if that's a concern of yours.

Well, if you don't access the DSi Shop I doubt they'll ask you to upgrade.
