I know this is in the wrong section so don't tell me about that....
KK, so I have this really cool idea which I am not going to tell any of you [yet].
But I need to edit the Nintendo DSi's Firmware. Is there any way to take info and media off the DSi's chips and into my computer and BACK?????
If anyone helps me 100% As soon as I can I will pay you 20 USD.

No if there was there would be custom firmware already.

To even decrypt the firmware or sign an edited one so you can install it you need the common key which only a select few hackers have access to.

If that were possible, people would have probably found out already how to hack it.

Yes I know that it would already be done but I KNOW there is a way to get the info off of there. Look, there are MANY ways to get info off chips. The DSi one can't be any different!!!

If you know, why the hell are you asking us?

I don't think there's a problem getting the info off (or ON for that matter) the DSi...
The problem is, you can't decrypt/encrypt it because you need a security key/signature.

Ok...... Then Please tell me how to get the info off!!!
Now I am upping the Ante, 30 USD for any one who can tell me the key

BTY: I KNOW IT means "I know it" which for all you "weird ppl" means that I dont really know it but I am sure there is a way of doing it!

Well, I admit I don't know much about hacking in general, let alone hardware hacking, but you said it yourself:

All you'd need is a proper set up to dump the info off the chips...
But as I said, that doesn't do much of anything if everything is encrypted.

Trust me 30 dollars isn't enough, it isn't even half of what all the equipment would cost to be able to dump your NAND.

Trust me that you will not get this to work. Unless you want to do something like this you cannot and will not be able to edit the firmware. Even if you out of some miracle become the second person to dump the NAND or aquire the firmware successfully you still need to decrypt it with the common key and re sign it with it which is not made public and won't be made public for awhile. Plus you'd need to learn how to edit it properly (which from the way you're posting it sounds like you have no idea how hard it is) if you make the slightest mistake it would brick your DSi.

THEN you'd need a way to put it back on the DSi, and finally you need a way to install the firmware.

Good luck with all that

I dont see how this thread belongs to this subforum... This is clearly called NDS - ROM Hacking and Translations. Nothing there implies HW hacking at all. GB2school OP.

You can, according to hackmii, rip apart an old SD reader and solder it directly to vias on the motherboard that connect to the MMC flash which contains the firmware.

30 USD please.

Hey slow down buddy!!! Please email me the STEP - BY - STEP instructions to how I would do this for all of my questions:

Get firmware off
Get firmware on
Crack Encryption

If you can not answer ALL of these NO MONEY! Remember EMAIL me the instructions and later I will repost them in GBATEMP but just so you know my email is [email protected]

If it was that easy to do we would have a custom firmware by now, but do we?! So sit down, drink coffee and relax. M'kay.

LOL! This is just sad (and mildly amusing).

Mildly? I find it extremely amusing. Here I am sitting on the bus after a long stressful day at school, with a huge grin on my face, this is hallarious.

What I find the most chucklsom is that the OP has the status of newcomer, but yet he/she thinks they know what they are talking about.

Oh, and OP, when you are looking for some advice and put money on the line, generally it is a better idea to give some sort of comp for any bit of info. In other words, I think it is time to Paypal some of that $30 to the poster whom stated the SD route.

And anyways I have a life apart from GBATemp! I do know what I am talking about because I wasn't born the second I started GBATemp!
