Easy CD-DA Extractor is a great program, googling it yields downloads for the demo, which is unlimited use for 30 days, more than enough to convert your library. Errr cough cough, you could always, cough cough, search for it elsewhere, cough.

I just use itunes to convert it, it works it pretty good.

DSi 1.4U hasn't been released yet. I think either a), nintendo of america is slacking and still believing that the DSL is more important than the new system, b) are waiting to release it on Monday with the new DSiWaste stuff, or c), are giving up on the DSi all together. lol

Unfortunately, there isn't really a source I can link to...most of the stuff related to DSi development isn't actually posted anywhere on the internet yet. It's mostly on IRC at this point, but I don't really wanna give out the channel on gbatemp since a bajillion noobs are probably gonna flood the place with questions...

I am more interested in region changes than custom firmware as I have 2 JP DSis with very low serial numbers (xmas for kids) so :

Has anybody tried using a router to translate IP addresses to access a server from another region ?

Has anybody been able to set up and serve firmware from a spoof server on a local network ?

If you choose to upgrade, must it be the latest version ? (prompted by 1.4 and “glitch” with carts)

I have put phrases I believe are relevant into search and read this FAQ and lots of topics, but I am willing to be educated if I need to clean my glasses !

You will only be able to connect to the US Dsi store (which is actually kinda a good thing) and if you have a PAL wii and they come out with the video streaming channel that streams videos to your DSi to view them it might not work.
