I wonder if we do achieve 486 and Windows 3.1 compatibility how well will Betrayal in Antara will run.. Hmm...

Man, this is some wonderful work. If only the DS had a bigger screen, this would just be perfect

Luckily DSx86 copes with the small screen size pretty well.

I doubt it will be fast enough for Antara as it was kind of slow even on my old Pentium 75 (Windows for Workgroups 3.11). As for the small screen, DS2x86 is supposed to have much better screen scaling than DSx86 did though I haven't been able to try it out because my one EGA/MCGA game, Moraff's World (nice dungeon crawler), did not work even though it worked fine in DSx86.

I tried the scaling on Duke Nukem 2, and it does look leagues better than what's in DSx86.

Great test release,

Working games, I've tested:

- Wolfenstein 3D, @ 396mhz, works good (game speed/ save and load).
- Supaplex, @ 240mhz or 360mhz, works also good (for mouse use D-pad mode).
- Dune 2, @ 396mhz, works (also the mouse/ touch screen).
- Commander keane 6, @ 396mhz, works great.
- Skyroad, @ 396mhz, works great.
- Steg, @ 396mhz, works good.

Edit:

- Arkanoid, @ 120mhz or 396mhz, (touch screen) works good.
- Duke Nukem2 @ 396mhz, works good.
- Fire & Forget 2 @ 120mhz or 396mhz, works good.
- Monkey Island 2 @ 120mhz or 296mhz, works good.
- Beetlejuice @ 120mhz or 396mhz, works.

Screen scaling is decent, using a DSI XL.

MD

(Note: Also all the clock speeds works fore those games.)

Oh well, here goes my dream of a portable Antara. Some day... some day.

Well, those results are awesome. I can't seriously wait to receive my SCDSTwo

Patrick, have you applied to get a free developer unit for the Cyclo DS iEvo? It allows homebrew apps to fully use the DSi processor and RAM... it seems like that would be great for DSx86

They are giving away 50 free units to homebrew developers...

He has already contacted them and they are sending him one. Unfortunately, as stated on his blog it will be much slower (20mhz 386 speed, at best) than the DSTwo version (which is already running at the speed of a 40mhz 386).

Are you started all the games with sound and normal resolution?

@ zizer,

Only wolfenstein 3d has sound (doors, voices and guns). Game runs "decent" smooth.

About the resolution: all those games has the resolution of "320x200".
An a DSI XL it looks very good (example; Wolfenstein 3D in scale mode). (i don't know how it looks an a DS lite).

MD

and we have the game without sound and with a lower resolution screen.Сonclusion - it is impossible to play

Hopefully Patrick still hangs out around here. You might have already thought of it and it's just something for a future release. It would be very convenient that when you choose mouse control, that you have an option to switch the screens, so you can directly have the gameplay screen with the cursor on the touch screen. I tried playing Dune2 and it was pretty tricky to control the cursor on the top screen from the touch screen.

Yep, still here. :-)

Yeah, the mouse support is very untested and rudimentary yet (I had actually forgotten that I don't even swap the screens yet for touchpad mouse!)

I'll see if I can add that to the next version. I am currently working on the protected mode features for DOS4GW, so that I haven't had much time to do other improvements yet. One thing at a time...

Cheers for responding Patrick and there's no rush. Just knowing that you know, is more than enough. Looking forward to read your newest blog entry soon as always!
