Hacking DS lite top screen - stays white

Hi,
I was told this was the best place to come to for asking a ds hardware question.

My DS lite has started playing up. The top screen now stays completely white, except for some very faint vertical lines across it (you can only see them from an angle). Everything else (bottom screen, buttons, sound, etc) is perfectly fine

My GF says she dropped her bag at some point, with the DS inside. So we figure it's got something to do with that.

Is there anything that can be done about it, or will I have to make the call to Nintendo for repairs? (It's well out of the 12 month warranty).

Replace the to screen, cheap enough, just read the forums on how to do it first. You will also need a tri wing screwdriver to open the base.
