i know there's a phat DS firmware ROM but is there a NDSL ROM dump out?
the reason so is so that i can go into an actual DS Lite menu instead of ann odd NDS menu.
If anyone has it can you post the link thanks

btw i dont think its an illegal ROM dump(hopefully)

The guy who made the original one was a master at the DS firmware. In fact, he created FlashMe. When he posted firmware.nds he stated that it was very difficult to get it to work, and due to that he had no intention of making a Lite version. I haven't seen anyone else take on the task since then, unfortunately.

wow. i thought it would've been like a dump system like game ROMs
but isnt DSL similar to DS original since the only difference is the light settings connected to the DS system itself
i tried the DS firmware on my DSL and it actually turned off the backlite even though its not a setting of DSL's briteness (NDSL has phat DS firmware!!!!)

They're very similar, yes. However, I don't really know how the firmware.nds file was made in the first place so I couldn't tell you why it would be any harder to make one for the DS Lite. All I can do is trust Olimar's judgment on this one.

On a side note however, if you want to have some fun, extract the firmware.nds file with DSLazy and look through some of the bin files with a hex editor. You can change the text for many of the screens in the settings and Pictochat and such. Repack it with DSLazy and you've got a still-working image with your modified text.
