A new Dragon quest game is finally coming
and Nintendo is getting it, on the 3ds, but NOT the wiiU the game will be coming to the NX it is also come the PS4

3ds and ps4 version same story
The PS4 version is being developed with the Unreal Engine 4

Nintendo 3DS version, the top-screen will show a more 3DS-style with chibi characters, while the bottom screen shows the game in more of an old school SNES era look.

" NX version under consideration "
Other than that, cool news. Personally like the 3DS version more than the PS4 version (lel at that rope walking animations in the video)

Kind of feel like the 3DS version is being made with Japanese fans in mind, with the PS4 version being geared towards a western audience.

And as freaking usual there is no word of a Western release.
To be fair, numbered releases usually come our way, and this was a Japanese reveal, in Japan. I would expect something resembling an announcement of the game coming our way, probably just the PS4 version, sometime in 2016 since they're probably going to wait for the game to release in Japan before even considering a localization. Maybe they'll just go ahead and aim for a closer release this time though after how well VIII and IX performed in the rest of the world.

Of course. I think it's also that the PS4 version is what they wanted to make, but they recognize that they still need to appeal to the mobile-centric market of Japan. So they compromised and are making the two versions instead of just one or the other, which is pretty nice.

I also really, really want to emphasize that the NX version is only under consideration. It is not confirmed, and it's not an eventuality. It's just something that SE is considering. Consideration is not commitment.

Which is better than nothing, but I have heard that even the western release "rumors" have been somewhat debunked too. So I guess Im back to hoping and waiting.

I mean, of course the 3ds is lacking detail in general, but that grass really kills it.
Anyway, hoping to get the 3ds version.
I'm doubting the 3DS version will come west for one major reason: time.

DQXI is coming out in 2016 (probably) for the PS4 and 3DS in Japan. Consider localization and tack on another year until the potential western release, and that throws the release window for the west to 2017. Even being optimistic, I can't see the 3DS surviving in the west until a sometime in 2017 release date (the system would be over six years old with that release window in mind), whereas the PS4 will still be alive and kicking. As was already mentioned, it really feels like the PS4 version is being made with the rest of the world in mind too, although it is also clearly the game Yuji Horii wanted to begin with. In the end, I can see the PS4 version getting localized. I can almost guarantee that we'll get it. The 3DS version is at best super iffy though.

It all depends on how long Nintendo intends on keeping the 3DS alive at this point.

While I don't think it would be dead, or at least so dead in which it doesn't get this port, it probably will get replaced by the next handheld by 2017, if not next year. That handheld would most likely have BC or they may just enhance port it to the next handheld anyway.

Hum... The 3DS version interests me way more than the PS4 version, mostly due to having the old style as an extra.
I doubt they won't release it, it'd be pretty stupid of them to release one version and not the other, especially given to how they somewhat confirmed VII and VIII

I would still like to hear more about VII and VIII at some point. Despite what Yuji Horii said, SE has been silent about the whole thing. I take that as more confirmation than not that they're coming, but I also wonder if it was just a "we're considering" thing that Horii took and ran with and that SE's response is basically if they decide to do it, we'll know, and if they don't, we just won't see them.

As for XI, it's a different beast than VII and VIII. I already explained why I think the 3DS version coming west is kind of iffy right now. Time is important, and if the localization does come in the likely 2017 window, the 3DS just won't be a viable option in the west unless Nintendo redoubles their efforts to keep the 3DS going.

A lot of games are still coming in 2016, at least in the west. I don't have my doubt that the 3DS will live to 2017, 2018 might be pushing it though.
The DS lasted up to 2012 give or take (even with the 3DS out already), so I'll be betting on this one as well. z.z

I'm not sure about numbers, but I guess there are still more 3DS than PS4's in the west, so that's always an extra revenue for them.

Apparently the game will be releasing simultaneously on both PS4 and 3DS in Japan. I find it somewhat surprising that they're already able to predict that. Development of both games must be further along than I thought.

Tweet confirmation, very much in Japanese:

I went ahead and added the gameplay for the two versions to the news post. Lots of interesting stuff to see, and I encourage anybody who didn't watch the coverage video to check them out.
