Gaming Dragon Quest 9 and Online Question?

My girl friend and I want to play Dragon Quest 9 on DS, but she lives in CA and I live in Seattle I know it has online wifi support and read some where that you can join a friends game via online...how does this work?

the online (wfc) part of the game is just a special shop

multiplayer works via ad-hoc just like most DS games

true online ds games are pretty rare... Phantasy star zero is one of them

Yeah, in order to play DQ9 multiplayer, you need to be in the same room as your friends. Or at least the same house.
