Donkey Kong Bananza Direct - roundup

We finally get to learn more about Donkey Kong Bananza. DK and kid Pauline will team up together in the game, which takes place underground, in order to return back to the surface. It'll have large open levels, and DK can climb walls and break through the level terrain. Rolling, tearing chunks off the ground, and throwing large objects are all new abilities you can use. Cranky and Rambi return, too. Pauline's singing can transform DK into a bunch of different animal forms. The big bads of this game are called the Void Gang. There is voice acting, as Pauline has speaking lines.

There are hidden collectibles, found through exploration or challenges. There are Country-style 2D sections in these challenge courses. The game has a skill tree, where you can power up different aspects of DK. Costumes, ala Super Mario Odyssey, return, where you can dress DK and Pauline up. A second player can control Pauline on Donkey Kong's back, who can shout attacks at enemies.

Amiibo support is in the game. There will be a new DK and Pauline amiibo. The game launches July 17.

There are valid things to complain about, like prices, but it feels like some of you guys wouldn't have been happy, no matter what was shown. It is funny that both claims of Nintendo not changing and Nintendo changing too much is in this thread.

Don't worry a Super Mario Bros. Wonder Deluxe is probably on its way.
Mario Wonder Switch 2 Edition.

This looks WAY more incredible that I thought it'd be! But it also kinda fucks with the DK timeline, does it not? This means it takes place before even the original arcade game... Making "jump man" the... bad guy??

Game looks incredible.

What a massive shame it wasn't ready for launch. I'm sure that was the original plan but if this trailer was part of the Switch 2 launch direct it would have elevated it so much.

Still not sure I'm ready to spend what they're asking to get a Switch 2 though.

This will be their first system-seller. It's funny how no-one but Nintendo and their partners make games like this.

It looks like they launched with and bundled Mario Kart World primarily to shift it, by removing any option for the buyer to choose something else. Sneaky and effective.

Also using the same engine doesn't mean it's the same game as Mario Odyssey. Portal is the same as Half Life, right? Sure thing, if you're a dumbass.

Same engine, same genre, same concept. It's a matter of how similar it is to Odyssey. This is looking like a Banjo kazooie to DK64 situation.

I'm kind of generous and consider everything that releases before the first Christmas for a console to be the launch window. Coming out a month later isn't a big deal. If it was launch, everyone who bought at launch would have completed it and MK by now and have nothing to look forward to for a while.

My money's on that using the Odyssey engine
The fluid mechanics and framerate also remind me of Wario World

Nintendo doesn't even abide by their own established lore.

There are seven Koopalings. There are seven Koopalings and Baby Bowser, which may or may not be the Baby Bowser from Yoshi's Island, which was Bowser as a baby, an individual that fought against Yoshi and Baby Mario, who is from Brooklyn Yoshi's Island.

Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Mario, Luigi, Bowser, and Baby Bowser all go go-karting at the same time. Nomura himself would be scratching his head.

I know about the "all a play" explanation.

i'm more hyped for this than mario odyssey, it'll be mine and i think a lot of other people's first 3D DK game. interesting that this came not too long after kirby's first true 3D game. i can only dream, but i'm practically drooling imagining a starfox title with the same level of effort and budget
