Giga pets were these virtual pet game.... toy.... things that the infamous TIGER ELECTRONICS used to make and sell that had all sorts of licensed characters as well as uncommon that was like over 20 years ago in America (1997). I had one it was blue and i think was a alien. My mom found her old one, is purple and dead, as in the thing don't work anymore. At the time it was a trending fad, much like POGS. But then tiger made new toys, like FURBY, and also other stuff came and try to do better like Tamagatchi and such. But if you have any stories about owning them you can share them here. :)

Honestly there was a time people was obsessed with these things just as much as the other tiger hand held games, while wasn't much of a game compared to the ones we play on tv at the time, it was what some people had. :P

Oh yes, Giga Pets, Nano Pets, Tamagotchi, that Pikachu thing, I even had a Star Wars one where you raised a rancor monster. There was also ones where you raised a fighter, and they could connect to each other and do battles and stuff.

Tamagotchi was the big one here in the UK, i don't recall ever seeing a Giga Pet.

Soon after Tamagotchi was released they were so many clones. I had a Dinkie Dino (Rakuraku Dinokun In Japan) which was pretty good. I seem to remember it did a fair bit more than a Tamagotchi.

I believe I got mine at the start of the 6 weeks summer holidays, it lived for those 6 weeks. Then when School started again I got my Mum to look after it as they were banned in School. I think in total it survived for 2 months. After such a long time i don't believe I started looking after another.

It was such a crazy fad at the time, everyone had one, some people even having multiple.

This is the exact one I had down to the colour (not my photo):

For anyone with an Android DiNostalgia Widget is essentially Dinkie Dino as an Android widget.

Never heard of that one, but I had a Tamagotchi and some other thing, my mom also had a Tamagotchi. They were all gifts.
Those things were annoying as hell and they always died after a few weeks no matter how hard I tried to keep them alive. But I still had fun with them.

I bought several no name knockoffs from Wal-Mart at the time. 3-4 days of Casual play, or 6ish of trying really hard to keep the stupid thing alive. First time I really tried, the virtual wiener dog lasted 6 days, died very sadly, I legitimately cried, and never turned to stupid thing on again.

They have loads of these types for sale in a shop around here that specialises in importing cheap things from Japan. Can't remember which particular brand they are.

I had a Tamagotchi, was a little over the figured age on them but was curious in the 90s. They currently are reissuing them as they were 20 years ago or will be shortly this year. Seems today it would make more sense as a phone toy but with backpack clips being hot lately it would have that angle to work from too.

Yeah, the 20th Anniversary was last year I believe - the rerelease is a "Tamagotchi Chibi" model, which is themed like the original but smaller and with really...really simplified gameplay (press "a" to feed/clean/everything and that's it).
The Tamagotchi Chibi is marketed as a fashion accessory rather than an actual Tamagotchi in Japan, so it pretty much is an interactive backpack clip

Hmm yeah it's mini didn't remember seeing that part. Looks like it still would keep someone busy for a bit more than those $10 mystery bag keychain clips for backpacks that are popular now too. Not too long ago I found a boxed up Tamagotchi Keeper locally a red and black one which looked kind of cool. I've got it around here somewhere. It never made sense to me to make a plush alien looking condom basically to wrap around an attention whoring beeping kids toy as they're built to take abuse.
