Homebrew Does a scrubbed iso + brick blocker = black screen?

I just burned 4 games that had been pre scrubbed,
and then I brick blocked them to avoid the updates. The only game that loaded up after hitting play on the disc channel was
Mario tennis, because that was a (compressed) iso, unlike the other 3. All games worked at the disc channel with correct movie playing. I'm going to burn th again without blocking them, but I was wondering why they didn't work in the first place. When people
scrub them, do they already take out the updates, or does
scrubbing them not allow for you to be able to brick block period?

Lastly, is it easier just to remove partition 0 (the update one) from the iso, making the game partition 0 in the first place?
