Is it worth the risk of downgrading I don't have a gateway? What will I be able to do?
Yes it worth it, you'll be able to do pretty much everything possible, gateway isnt a requirement !
This may be a good place to go, for starters. Plenty of useful links sure to answer any question you might have.
1.For me is worth it by using this guide gbatemp.net/threads/noob-friendly-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds-from-10-4-10-5-10-6-to-9-2 (So far So good=No reported bricks with this)
2.You can install CFW-EmuNand Which is great!
Edit: You have homebrew access right?
EDIT: IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU DON'T NEED A GATEWAY FLASHCARD FOR THIS!
yes, I have oot hax.
Then all you have to do is follow that guide! XD
EVEN if stability is 99.99% success:
IM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR 3DS BRICKS, FOLLOW IT WITH CAUTION WITH THE RIGHT FILES!
Actually, with 9.2 you can do everything a Gateway would... Without one.
Is this N3ds Or O3ds?

Do I need to format or delete anything to do this? I have soooooo many digital games that I really don't want to loose the progress of.
Make sure you download the downgrade pack for N3dsXL!
no really if you follow guides, tutorials step by step you wont loose anything, from Mii to friendlist to themes to anything.
I was afraid for this yesterday, now i'm peaceful
That is optional, if you want to do it, backup your WHOLE SDCard in the Computer!
There is little to nothing gateway offers that reading this subforum won't be able to get you for free. At this point gateway just provides a bit of convenience and the ability to play roms without installing them(just install them and save yourself the cost of a flashcart)
I actually downgraded my N3DS yesterday with prior knowledge of that stuff. I had important things on it and i never lost my stuff. In fact when you start the process of getting an emuNand (And you should!) your stuff gets transferred to it. However my friend tried to downgrade his O3DS and his Super Smash Bros. couldnt read the latest data for some reason.
