Complete Professor Layton ripoff... But looks pretty promising.. Although this makes me wish there would be 3DS flashcarts already so I could "demo" this more than an hour or so.

Because I somehow don't trust this. I shall just wait for the previews and reviews then.

I'm pretty damn interested in this game.

It's like Layton but totally different. And the character, asides from looking like Hershel, seems to be different too. Like Layton + Indiana Jones.

I'm gonna buy it as soon as I can.

I saw this (Or a similar video) a while ago.

It looks good, but it is ridiculous how they can get away with knocking off Professor Layton that bad.

I saw an article about the game a few days ago in the newest Nintendo Power, and I thought it was Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle.

Given how successful professor layton is it was only a matter of time, except i didnt expect konami to do such a blatant copy. I guess it will sell well until the 3DS prof layton comes out in english

It sounded like a Professor Layton rip off just from the title. The video was even worse. It doesn't look bad, but it's just taking everything from Professor Layton (Visuals, gameplay, and even the style of the characters!) and changing it around a little bit.

It looks pretty cool but is a bit to like professor layton. Has it been confirmed to be full of nothing but puzzles? (From my knowledge that is all what professor layton is filled with)

Just the visuals and the style of the characters.
God, do your homework, people. Everybody is hating on this game just because it looks like Professor Layton when they don't know anything about it.

It does have puzzles but it includes more gameplay features which have the same importance as them such as sneaking past enemies and some RPG elements.

It also has some RPG elements but everyone ignores that and gets into the "OMG LAYTON RIPOFF" train.
I hate when people post the same things I do at the same time I do ):.

Did I say I hate it? I said it doesn't look bad. Even so, you'd have to either be blind, or a fanboy to not admit/see that it's a Prof. Layton ripoff. OH BOY SNEAKING PAST GUARDS. That still doesn't change the fact that the game's title, graphical style, characters, and the majority of the gameplay is pretty much just ripped off of Prof. Layton.

I quoted you but I said it in general.
And who told you the majority of the gameplay is going to be puzzles? I have yet to see anything about them. Oh, you assumed that because he has a top hat.

Any idea on the kind of RPG elements it has? I'm guessing from the giant sword wielding thing it has a bit of zelda like combat (the over head view implies this to me).

Love this trailer.

It certainly has a layton style story, but I certainly like this. I doubt it'll be a rip-off, anyways.

Btw, MGSPW and ZOE.... Yayz!

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
