Do the 3ds updates really make the 3ds more stable?

To test this hypothesis I ducktaped two 3ds consoles to different sticks

The first was launch day, never updated
The second was on FW 11.17.0-50U

I then used the 3ds console turned hammers at a construction site for general pounding and mallet purposes

The results

Both broke after repeated use, but the 11.17.0-50U console lasted 20 more minutes
