Hello everyone. In the last year I have tested hundreds of java (j2me) games (mostly for Nokia s40/s60 phones, with 240x320 resolution) on the latest version of this software, comparing the results with those obtained on real hardware (Nokia 206, Nokia 208, Nokia 301 or Nokia C5), game by game. I have tried especially the most famous games (by Gameloft, EA, Glu, GlobalFun etc) and the most sophisticated ones available for 240x320 resolution (larger file size, more sound effects, larger sprites, etc). First of all I will say that the colors are much less bright and paler (like light pastel) compared to real hardware (eg Nokia phones): can this be remedied by using alternative palettes? 🤔

I must specify that I used a PSP 3004 for testing, and as a graphic format the resolution 320x240 CW90 (yes, with the console rotated 90 degrees, really fantastic!).

The most general results obtained are these:

1) Any 3D game (obviously s40/s60, not symbian) does not work, due to the lack of a certain function never implemented, as specified by the developer (e.g. OutRun 3D, 3D Jewel Quest II, 3D Rally etc);

2) Some games, more demanding, crash already during the initial loading, freezing and then turning off the PSP; I remedied this by increasing the size of the "reserved C Heap Size" to 5120 KB;

3) In some games the music sounds hoarse, scratchy or out of tune, while in others it is slightly accelerated;

4) In some titles, especially Gameloft strategy ones, where there are sound effects and music both activated at the same time, you don't hear nothing, but the game slows down as if they were active;

5) In the main game selection menu, I would suggest to change the way to highlight the choice, since as it is now, it is not very visible and it is difficult to see the underlining;

6) Ultimately, I would say that more than 95% of the games tested work (240x320 ones, I repeat), often without any sound, or with defective sound.

Since I have some free time, I am willing to give more precise and reliable results, perhaps by drawing up a basic compatibility list, but only on two conditions:

1) That someone shows interest in the topic;

2) That some developer/programmer comes forward, willing and well-disposed to improve and update this now dated software (its source code is freely available), trying to remedy at least the most obvious defects, and perhaps introducing some other improvements, especially regarding the poor rendering of the sound effects, and the frequent slowdowns in some titles. Sorry for my poor english.
Greetings.
