Most of the staff including myself where very much against the introduction of a like button in the first place, we grudgingly agreed to one being introduced on the understanding that a dislike button would never be introduced. A dislike button by nature is a negative thing, one which can be easily abused and used as a tool of harassment against people. I can see situations occurring very easily where a certain group of people target one or more individuals and downvote every single post they make regardless of content. We really don't need something like that here and I think I speak for all the staff when I say that none of us have the energy or desire to look into things like "dislike button bullying" etc.

All in all a dislike button would just bring almost no benefits to the community and potentially a whole heap of issues, and we don't need that at all.

Wow, I never expected this thread to get serious at all. I mean we are not ALL 5 years old lol.... But w/e lol. If you really feel that would happen then I suppose I understand lmao.

This is funny because we actually have a dislike button !
Only in order to see it, you must first push the like button, then if you want, you can dislike, which brings the balance back to normal, no hard feelings!

Interesting, isn't it ;)

It sure is :yay:

I liked your post in order to unlike it.

A dislike button is possibly the stupidest idea a forum can come up with. It can literally destroy a community and the nerves of moderators. Sites like TMZ go even further, they have a HATE button, can you believe that? And we all know what reputation TMZ has.

I was one of the people who was for a like/up button in the first place... and just a like/up button. A like/up button by itself is useful to mark which posts in a thread have the most community backing in general, like which ones are the most helpful, posted a solution, etc.

A dislike button does nothing useful like that, and can be misleading instead.

Like/Dislike buttons are a bad idea since the majority of internet users seem to be thin-skinned losers whose whole sense of self-worth is defined by how many people they've never met (or "friends" as Facebook refers to them) like their tedious, ill-reasoned opinions and arguements.
