My Sandisk Class 6 32gb card works really great with zero slowdowns
As I mentioned earlier, the speed difference is mostly writing-related. Would you mind putting a game on a USB drive, then running it from Cfg-Mod on SD cards of different classes, and timing the startup times of both? It will copy it to the SD and run it from there. I'm interested to see if startup time is faster for a higher class.

Finally!!!! Yeeeeeeesssssss!!!!!!! Nothing was working for me when it came to dumping save files from my official ninty 256 memory card. I tried everything(NuGaSa, GCMM r11/12, ctr-gcs: DT edition) so I decided to order an SD Gecko from Deal Extreme to try Swiss.

Sure enough it took 3 weeks to arrive lol but when it arrived I had also d/loaded ctr-gcs: DacoTaco edition 0.2b at the same time. They both worked. So anyone having issues with official Nintendo Memory cards just make sure to access the MC through the Wii SM first then use the latest version of ctr-gcs: DacoTaco Edition 0.2b or Swiss through SD Gecko, you won't be disappointed.

Seems I have no use for this SD Gecko at the moment. I wonder what else can I use it for?

I'm not sure I follow you, are you saying there's a way to back up your save data from a real memory card to an SD? If so that would be the best news I heard it all week, would be better if it also allows to transfer downloaded save data to a real memory card!
Yes sonictopfan there are ways to transfer you save data from an SD card to SD, the only problem was most only worked with third party cards, my problem was finding an app that worked with official Nintendo MC's, that however is no longer a problem :D

And yes with ctr-gcs and other apps mentioned in my previous post you can also restore .gci files to your memory card.

I just got home from the mall, I was looking at the SD cards because I plan on buying a new 32GB one very soon, now here's the thing, I found one a SanDisk SD class 6 that's affordable and a Sony SD class 4 that costs 4 times Sandisk, the guy at the store said Sony is faster and lives longer despite them both being good, now I'm tempted to get the Sony one because I don't wanna have slowdowns or data loss during gameplay, I have about 30GB worth of GC games, but it's gonna take me a couple of weeks to afford this "saving up money from work", what do you suggest? shall I just go with SanDisk or get the Sony one?
My Sandisk Class 6 32gb card works really great with zero slowdowns

Interesting... How long have you been using it? And did you notice any slow down in loading screens than using a smaller SD?

To be honest I've never felt any difference between my class 4 and my class 6 cards in my personal experience. In fact there are games that have some slowdowns but those games also have the same slowdowns when loaded from the disc channel with the retail disc.

Yes, you are correct. When I replied to the above guy I was only answering his specific question. Once I have some free time I'll post the timing results from different cards I own :) btw Hi Joostin!

Would one of those games be Sonic DX by any chance? I did notice slowdowns with it but I don't think I have ever played it from the disc though I have it laying around somewhere. Perhaps I am just used to the Dreamcast version?

I can confirm this, Shadow The Hedgehog and Rayman 3 give the "error" message in no-disk, and Sonic Gems Collection wont load any of the first 3 games "Sonic The Fighters, Sonic R, Sonic CD" in no-disk either, and Rayman Arena crashes a lot in no-disk, hopefully the team can look at these issues?

At least I'm not the only one who experiences that error :) Also for whoever wants to know, the only difference between r58 and r59 is that the soft-reset/soft-shutdown button combo is different due to some issues with some games needing the original combos

I'll point out too that I ripped Shadow The Hedgehog from my own official game disk along with many others and didn't just download a pirated one, so the issue is valid...

Wait r59? I can only find r58 and below!

I see... Thanks for the reply man, I'll probably get the SanDisk one which is 4 times cheaper!

r58 is the latest pre-compiled version, r59 I had to compile from the svn source myself :) and I have to fix my Shadow the Hedgehog disc, that and Spyro are Scratch City xD

I own adventure 2 but not DX. What other game do you feel have slowdowns?

That's the only noticable one though I haven't played very many. Of course, sonic is a much faster paced game than some of the others (paper mario, skies of arcadia) so it is easier to notice.

So r59 fixes the issue with Shadow The Hedgehog? I wonder what was the problem though, I hope this would fix Sonic Gems Collection and Rayman 3 too!

Nah GC Sonic DX had a ropey framerate anyway.. it was a shocking conversion (I remember being gutted I paid top whack for it when it came out..)

This is the app I used that work. Swiss worked as well but as you know you're SOL if you don't have the SD Gecko.

So I encountered a weird problem, I felt like playing a certain MAME game on my Wii but for some reason MAME doesn't detect the remote and using the Gamecube controller only allows me to select a game but once the game loads I cannot do anything but hit "reset" on the console to get back to the games list, I tried deleting the history and everything but it still does the same, I wonder if DML has anything to do with this, I thought I'd bring it up and see if someone can confirm this problem or not!

Edit: Nevermind that, false alarm, I downloaded it again and it works now!

Will this force all games to progressive mode, even NTSC ones? If it does then I might try it out as I would love to play Skies of Arcadia in progressive mode.
I've got Skies of Arcadia PAL, which throws a dramatic blue screen of death when forced to 480p on Swiss. This doesn't mean NTSC will do the same, but it's not a great sign.
Actually, I finally got around to testing Skies of Arcadia PAL, and (I've been going quite slowly because so far all my results were identical to Swiss, and it's hard to get excited about retesting the same games with the same results ... however:) it runs perfectly fine in 480p. I was quite surprised to see compatibility actually improve over Swiss. I'd be interested to hear if the NTSC version works, too.

When I try to turn on any options (NMM, no disc, etc) in cfgloader for your version my wii just shuts down. Changing configuration options works fine in r58 though. Also, your version won't work in Postloader either (as postloader will run it in no disc mode). Skies of Arcadia NTSC looks great in 480p though.

For clarity, it's not my version, it's conanac who ported the original code from Swiss by emu_kidid to work in DML. I'm just an interested party, not involved in development in any way. Sorry if I gave that impression.

I can confirm that something appears to have gone wrong with the DML config system; dropping back to a loader version which hadn't yet implemented the config seems to work (using your compiled-in defaults, of course), but obviously prevents using per-game settings.

Nope, no disc mode is broken as well even in Postloader which doesn't have the config system.
