An expansion was announced for D3 at Gamescon, Reaper of Souls. More details are set to be announced at Blizzcon.

It is set to add such features (and improve existing game elements) as:
    • Diamond
    • All Resist and Armor to be merged into the new stat Toughness. That's only for simplifying the character sheet, as both stats are still present in the detailed view
    • Better map layouts
    • A new class - the Crusader
    • Another act - with darker atmosphere
    • Increased level cap
    • New artisan to change the appearance of your gear
    • Changes to the paragon levelling system - Paragon 2.0
    • Enchanting - re roll affixes on legendaries
    • New loot system - Loot 2.0
    • Two new game modes - Loot Runs and Nephalem Trials
    • New legendaries
With the outcries of D2 fanboys at D3, how will the community react to the expansion?

D3 has had its ups and downs. I am quite excited for it :D it is a game I have been enjoying a lot lately with my buddies. We recently were able to do uber runs on mp10 :D it will be fun to see what exciting new challenges this expansion will bring!

Depends, am I going to have to reroll because you can't solo Inferno as a Demon Hunter without grinding for 6 months to get the gear to complete Act 4 due to the nerfs? Cause I can't force myself to play through the game and level new characters.

DSGamer64 idk if you've seen the 1.0.8 patch but demon hunters got a nice buff on rapid fire. It's what I use these days.
Activate shadow power with the gloom rune and start rapid firing away. I love my dh, the character I used to do mp 10 uber runs with my buddies.

If you can't finish inferno on mp0 with any character then you need to think what are you doing wrong.

On the other hand if you are talking about doing mp5+ runs then what did you expect? To finish hell and start bashing your way through the hardest level of the game like nothing?

Honestly it seems a bit daft that they made this announcement just before they release the console version. They are going to impede their sales so badly unless they immediately came out and stated it'll be headed towards consoles as well.

On the other hand, as a PC gamer this is interesting and could bring new life to the game, but I can't say I'm very keen that it only introduces 1 new character. Unless the new campaign is supposed to be twice as long, I'm just not sold.

With a giant "meh" I won't be buying the expansion.

I did however start playing Diablo II LOD again and the game is still more fun than III.

In what respect is Diablo II more fun, care to elaborate more on that?

    Two main things killed D3.
1: Anyone can use any weapon/armor aside from a FEW exclusives. Killed the game honestly, made look way too easy to get
2: The auction house made getting the best gear absolutely trivial. Why work for the best gear ever when you can just farm a tiny bit of gold and blitz through inferno like nothing.
3: Awful level cap, lame skll variety, shitty skill system

Without those two things I think i'd still be playing it tbh.

If I said Diablo 2 is to Fable 1 as Fable 2 is to Diablo 3, would it make more sense?

Diablo 3 casualized the entire experience and ended up alienating a majority of the original fanbase.

    1. having anyone use any weapon/armor doesn't makes the game easier
    2. what's the difference between trading items on a channel to the auction house?
    3. the skill system did casualise the game as you keep changing builds, but at the same time lets you play different builds without the need to re roll every freaking time. the level cap got better after the paragon system.

now they are revamping the loot system and enhancing the paragon system, so 2 of those 3 "wrongs" are getting corrected

also you do understand that game series doesn't have to use the exactly the same mechanics as previous installments?

The reason why I asked was, I quite enjoyed Diablo III but if Diablo II offers a greater gaming experience then I'll probably make the purchase.

If you liked Diablo III and if you don't mind the graphics downgrade (Diablo III is a beautiful game.) Diablo II and the expansion combined will blow your mind. The game play is 10 times deeper than Diablo III.

Once you get into Diablo II LOD prepare to be consumed for a month or two at least and if you get into the crafting system oh lord... (Diablo III's crafting system is a joke compared to Diablo II's)

You can get it from Blizzard online for 10 bucks but some web pages have it listed for 6 bucks.

This web page has CD keys for sale 6 bucks and all kinds of in game items you can buy if you are the kind who likes to buy stuff for games (Everything you can get on your own for free of course but if time is an issue than buying some things might be faster than making/finding them yourself.)

1: Nope but it makes finding gear a lot less satisfying. As frustrating as it is to get epic loot you can't even use, it generally actually pushed me to try new classes just so I could use that gear. Also being a sorc with a 2h sword is retarded.
2: Because it's a LOT easier. A lot of people didn't bother trading because it was just a pain. Leading them to...I dunno...PLAY THE GAME to get what they wanted. Sure a few people still do that, but of those 3, 2 of them are loading the auction house with uber gear for cheap for everyone else. It's no fun. It's like having cheatcodes right in front of you. Yeah you could just NOT use them, but dammit they're right there, and everyone else is using them. If you don't use those cheatcodes you'll be shittier than everyone else. So whats to stop you then.
3: being able to change builds on the fly could have been handled much, much better. A real simple solution games do (like Rift for example) is allow you to save multiple builds. Sure its not QUITE as versatile as D3 where you can just change a spell mid fight if you must and just suffer a bit of cooldown, but I'd rather have that minor lack of convenience and a very in-depth skill system. Combining Diablo 2 skill trees with the rune system in some way would have been pretty neat IMO.
But overall the versatility was a bad thing too. I loved in D2 being a role. You weren't just an assassin, you were a trapsassin or a martial assassin. You could stand out compared to other assassins. Now everyone is the same and just stacks damage, hp and resists to the maximum. booring.

How is revamping the loot system going to do anything? That wont change problem 1. All it does is make you get better stuff for you more often. Whoopie. You'll still get mammoth 2h weapons on a sorc cuz there's only "damage" and that's it to stack. The level cap increase and paragon system revamp does sound nice however, if they don't screw it up. At least level 70 is more reasonable. I hope they add some fun skills and runes. I somehow doubt the paragon system will do much unless gear starts getting stat requirements again to at least do SOMETHING to separate class gear.

Do you understand game series don't have to alienate their fanbase, crushing it, their sales, their reputation, and their chances of their sequels being a hit?
You ask most D2 players and they will simply squat over D3 and show you what they think of it. Its not like my opinion is unique.

I think the expansion will be a huge step forward, but that doesn't change the fact that Diablo 3 bombed, at least according to most Diablo fans.
Totally inconsequential but I'm slightly sad its only 1 new class and not two like D2. But that's a minor gripe.

Some helpful information then with crafting and runes and runewords will make the game a little easier (at least help you know what to keep and what to toss.)

    http://diablo2.diablowiki.net

If you want a cheater program that is sort of a pain to set up but it does everything under the sun like map hack, bot runs, pickit, (currently undetectable but since I doubt blizzard has updated warden in years that is probably not much of an issue.)

    http://www.projectetal.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

I use it myself but I don't do the whole bot thing and pickit, all I use is the map function (those randomly generated levels can be a bitch sometimes lol)

I've purchased Diablo II now & installed it.

Lots of information you've supplied there with them links, cheers.

I'll certainly take a look at the crafting, i'll give the cheater program a miss tho, thanks all the same (i prefer not to cheat) blood, sweat and tears gamer here.

This is nice, I suppose, but it's too little, too late, and honestly, it doesn't do nearly enough to address the games' many problems. Not to worry, though, I have the perfect solution. It's simple, free, and should fix the experience in no time.

Gahars' Fun Time Tutorial, OC donut steal edition
    Step 1) Open Diablo III
Step 2) Exit out, because why are you playing Diablo III? Come on, man.
Step 3) Seriously contemplate your purchasing decisions
Step 4) Play Path of Exile instead

    Diablo 2 > PoE
    Torchlight 2 > PoE

I found PoE boring looking and boring to play.

However, it is less boring to play than spending months farming gold for gear in Diablo 3.

    1. I am sorry, so mages should not use two handed swords because...? freaking gandalf used dual wielding - sword + staff

    2. So giving the playerbase a pain in the ass trade system is better than giving them a standard auction house because then the players need to redo the same boss over and over and over and over? It's not like the bosses needed any kind of strategy anyway, or were epic in anyway. On the other hand on d3 the bosses were really easy if you could read their patterns, or hard balls if you just stand in front of them (not counting uber gear/build)

    3. Implying that there are no builds on d3 at all, when actually most of the people spec to 2 attacks and the rest are shields/movement skills.

Now the revamp of the loot system won't change problem 1, but problem 2. as it will have more Bind on Pickup and Bind on Equip items.

imo the main problem of diablo 3 compared to diablo 2 is that money is everything on d3. while on d2 the currency was actually the items themselves, then again with all the dupes going around, the bots everywhere...

d2 had its own flaws, just everyone chooses to ignore them because of nostalgia.

on regards of Path of exile, that game sucks so bad, the developers decided to use 12 year old mechanics just to seem an old fashion game. that game would be epic... 10 years ago, today? just a cash in on nostalgia
