Has anyone tried third party controllers yet? I tried using my pro commander U but all 4 leds stayed lit up and it wouldn't do anything. Sure would like to use it

Rats...after lots of trial and error, I can only get one of two of my games to work on my family wii. (I got five...but at this rate, I'm not making much progress).

Here's what I can mention for sure so far:
-the games' location is also stored somehow. The disc verification needs to be on the exact same medium
-the wiimote you use for synchronisation on your first wii must always be around on the family wii (or wiiu).
-on the plus side: if you use memory card emulation, there's a 'memcard.bin' in \apps\gc_devo. This one can be copied around without issues whatsoever. I had it since some revisions ago, and it still works perfectly no matter what wii I'm trying it on.
-nope...the family wii DEFINATELY cannot read gamecube discs. Not even the first four sectors (or how much ever it actually needs to scan :( ).

Things I'm not sure about:
-I think the latest postloader (4.4.10) isn't working with it properly. Thus far, all my attempts with it end in a black screen (then again, I usually go with the own program instead).
-the timing of when you enable the wiimote when verifying may be extremely important. I started a game (Eternal darkness) with the disc already in the drive. Result: I may have noticed too late that my wiimote got desynced while it was verifying it. Result: I can now play the game on the old wii but it keeps wanting to verify on the new one.
-(totally unsure) perhaps xneek also meddles with attempting to transfer between wiis?

I've got to say that the shortcuts are pretty nifty once you get used to it (home: swap between active and inactive. When inactive, some button combo's allow for quite some action). But still...there REALLY needs to be more user feedback on that loader. The buttons are skewed up on a classic controller (as mentioned here before), so when either the loader or the game asks you to press A, B, X or Y, you ACTUALLY have to press respectively B, Y, A or X. It kind of makes sense if you look at the gamecube controller (where the 'A' button is in place of the B button), but man...I'm already thinking of just using wite out and permanent marker on those damn buttons. :P

EDIT:
drakorex: I have a third party PS3-controller around here. I'll see if that does anything once I got more certainty on the things mentioned above...

As for third party wiimotes...I hope those guys have better luck than I did.

Here's what I experienced:

I launched the games with wiiflow. I had 3 different wiimotes synced up when it launched. When devo started up, the wiimotes all shut off and devo synced up with the first wiimote that powered back on by itself. (not the same one all the time) So it's easier to verify all games with one wiimote.

If you have multiple identical wiimotes, I'd go to decalgirl.com and pick out a nice skin so you know which wiimote is which. If you have multiple wiis and hard drives, you just need to reverify each game for each HDD Wiimote combo and use the right wiimote with the right wii. syncing to a different system and then back does not effect the verification.

I tried the wiiU pro controller on both systems and they work great. My nyko wiiu commander pro however, not so much.

Lol at making people jump through all them hoops just to play a few GameCube games on a Wii/Family Wii/WiiU... Im happy I still have my GameCube console here working just fine (Touch wood it NEVER fails me so that I EVER have to resort to this crap..).

Personally, I enjoy being able to load games off an SD/USB HDD. There's more to this than being able to play gamecube games, but being able to play them without swapping discs, which means if you're traveling you don't have to carry a bunch of games with you lightening your travel load.

Dont get me wrong, Its a great app and I can see the benefits. Its just the hoops he has in place if you decide to use his software/app/program/whatever. ATM I have a Wii U, So Im unable to jump through his hoops even if I wanted to. Luckily I still have my GameCube console, Which is better than nothing I suppose.

Yeah, the hoops are... well I'm hoping Nintendon't becomes a viable loader in the future. The hoops for a Wii console that can read GCN discs aren't so bad (except for pirating, of course), though I do wish I could compress the games as I use a 32 GB SD card which is running low on space. I use DML for all the games that it works with and compress them, and then Devolution for the rest (and compress disc 2 on multidisk since that doesn't need verification). But hey, better to jump through hoops to get what you want/need than to not have it available at all.

drakorex: hmm...that's pretty interesting. I really don't want to open up my wii, but I admit this is tempting. So basically, I can fix the whole thing just by bending a slight piece of metal on the DVD-drive?
Hmm....tempting...

Yes. Except for two things:
1. not everyone has a gamecube. being able to play gamecube games on a console that, by default, cannot do it, is worth doing to some. And considering this section, it's kind of silly to laugh at it. Aside from actually coding stuff or making alterations to the hardware, this is wii hacking pretty much at its finest.
2. the gamecube doesn't have wireless by default. The one wireless controller I once bought was expensive and issues started acting up with it soon, and even with extended cable (which I do have) I'm not exactly comfortable with the length. And one instance where I nearly destroyed my wii by dragging it off the table was enough for me.

Yes, it's rudimentary. Yes, it has lots of room for improvement. But at least it works. And that's what matters.

Ashen12345 love your GC mods man! Fusion Rev3 is amazing, sorry just had to shout out to you! Now back to the topic at hand, r200 is a technical marvel, other than the DRM, I couldn't be happier with it's progress! THANK YOU tueidj. The shortcuts are super handy, Wiimote+Classic controller support, PS3 wireless remote support, WiiU Pro and Classic Controller Pro support and shortcuts for every controller method, I mean talk about the whole package of support when it comes remotes, down right magnificent if you ask me.

BTW whoever said Nintendon't had competition, bud it's the other way around. Nintendon't just stepped up in this arena and still in it's infancy, Crediar is amazing and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot from his program as well, but remember as it stands, this is the titan which all other GC loaders will be compared to. (-DRM :P)

Phew...to add to my earlier post: I found out where things went wrong. It wasn't on devolution's end (okay...I still say that the verification method should require user input. A simple "about to verify the disk. Please insert the original game. If you want to use this disk on a different wii or wiiu, connect a wiimote of that device now" when the front disk starts blinking blue should suffice).

-postloader (4.4.9) cannot handle it for now. Neither with nor without verification works. I'm using the loader itself for now (haven't tested with wiiflow).
-in case you accidentally verified without having the wiimote connected, you need to delete the corresponding .dvv file in \apps\devolution and try again
-when starting an unverified game, DO NOT HAVE THAT GAME IN THE DRIVE YET. Wait for the drive to start blinking, then sync that one wiimote, then insert the drive.
-on the new wii(u), when the drive starts blinking blue, connect the wiimote. Also: have some patience. It'll seemingly do nothing for about a minute. It isn't frozen.

There...that should do it (if not for someone else, at least for mental notes for myself). :)

Tomorrow, I'll see if I can get that D3mon PS3 connector working. After that, I'll write out a more thorough guide from beginning to end. :)

If you Hold RESET when Devolution starts booting the game you can reset the whole process, as said in the README.

How did you test verification on the Family Wii?
Also USB loaders should eventually support Direct Mapping options for Devo.

Well, I was speaking more in the WFE/ Wii U field, where nintendon't was the only GCN loader and we weren't expecting Devo to work on Wii U for a while, if ever.

Yeah I'll just stick to 197 and leave mw regular Wii hoocked up and not hack the vWii mode just to play GCN games - not worth it. Perhaps Nintendo will one day release a GCN VC for WiiU and i'll have to buy the games again - knowing me I'll probably even do that...
