Final Fantasy XIII masterminds Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama have stated that they'd be very interested in doing a direct sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, though they're waiting to see how well the current game does in the West before dreaming up a XIII-2.

"In the past three years we worked both on the world and on the various systems," says Kitase. "Creating these systems isn’t very glamorous and can frankly be a bit boring. If we could do a XIII-2, we could direct all our attention to the story and refine what we have already built."

That would be nice. It seems, with XIII, that they spent so long working on pretty colors and a battle system so inherently contrived that it needs to play itself for you, that they forgot what an RPG should be about -- the story. As for a possible Final Fantasy XV? Again, it all depends on how XIII does.

We do not know if there will be a XV. This depends a lot on the success of XIII. Also, it is difficult to pinpoint elements that are typical Final Fantasy. They are mostly invisible: part of the DNA of the game, that everyone recognizes as typical Final Fantasy. But if there is a XV, I hope the way we wrote our characters carries over. We strived to create believable people of flesh and blood. They are not robots. And they are not super heroes. I hope this humanity is something we will see again."

The trouble with your "real" characters though, is that they're simply not remarkable. I'd take a sentient cat puppet that rides on the back of a Moogle over characters that have nothing outstanding about their personality at all.

Still have to try FFXIII, but after reading things like these, I'm pretty sure it won't even come near to the super-awesomeness FF7 was

Also, please no *-2 anymore. I believe X-2 was one of the worst FFs EVER and that it shouldn't even have existed, as FFs SHOULD HAVE NO SEQUELS. Oh Sakaguchi, how dearly we miss you

The After Years did good but no other sequels should ever be made.

Hmm...really "contrived" its really ARPG combat taken down to an ATB bar with no movement, not exactly contrived.

FFXIII characters are very human and likable, I love the story and it means that people don't call bullshit about the complete absurdity of the character design (that said my favourite character in FFVII is Red XIII)

As for a sequel, its certainly very possible and would probably be done well especially if it uses the same engine (unlike X-2) but I'd rather they worked on FFXV and a whole new story.

I enjoyed FFX-2

The ATB was something good comparing it to XII 'ATB' system.
XII was a terrible abomination which shouldn't EVER have been marketed under the name "Final Fantasy".

And yet, still better than XIII.

I doubt they will do a sequel. There's too much wrong with XIII to warrant a sequel. Plus, they still have like 2 spin-offs yet to be released. Versus and Agito.

I admit they did do some things wrong but they still did things right as well. I still think its a good game
and wouldn't mind seeing more of this

I'd love to see a direct sequel, but maybe that's just me!

Just beacause X-2 became a girl power shit game (in some peoples oppinions) doesn't mean that XIII-2 would...

I can see it now.
Lightning getting a haircut and a different personality.
Vanille being the same.
Then another person coming into the scene.

Add in some J-Pop and you have FFXIII-2!

it would be a good idea as raven said to use the remaining graphics and all tht they deleted from this game
it is not true tht they will do the same mistake again with ffx-2 as they got more criticisms than praise hence the next part would be better if not equal
No game is ever gonna come close to ff7 cuz of the chars, story, direction... if u didnt appreciate these elements, u would hate the game (as many do due to fanboyism rather than the prev mentioned reason)
its gonna be more like a title which will expand the sales and wantings of the fans rather than giving the game a completion or more flavor like crisis core or advent children (movie)
