So I had a rather rude awakening this morning, there is a new update to CTGP-7 with the express purpose of removing every trace of my contribution to it.

The newest announcement, briefly:

Recently, a CTGP-7 contrubutor has been involved in some conduct that has totally broken our trust on them, even after telling them to not cross the line. As a result, I have decided to remove all their contributions from the mod.

To be fully transparent about the conduct, it involves breaking the mod anticheat and publishing a working user-friendly method to do it, just to show they can, without any specific malicious intention other than being completely irresponsible.

This is in reference to some new mods (Sysplugins) I have released for the 3DS, namely the uncapped Play Coins mod and others like Live Home Menu (video preview) that I have been working on recently. As these require using an alternative to Luma3DS, I released a closed-source CTGP-7 compatibility plugin, and that is causing the trouble here.

As I have learned, its not about the result, but the method. To be clear this does NOT allow people to cheat, or even make cheating become easier. It DID however, hook CTGP-7 to modify anticheat related code. There are other ways to establish compatibility and I could have reached out to PabloMK7 beforehand to see what could be done, and that is my mistake.

For the record, PabloMK7 had asked me not to distribute my custom boot.firm (with an embedded Mii outfit switcher mod for CTGP-7) back in February. Due to this, and the realization that Luma3DS' license requires distributed forks to remain open-source, I did not. No mention of this since.
What I released now was not a fork, not open-source, and DEFINITELY not to allow cheaters of any kind.

The intent here was never about showing off more so than it was just about me doing what I do, I love modding and making cool things, and without forcing a downgrade to user experience.
I have many more projects to come in the form of these 'Sysplugins', and a big concern for me was how users may decide that moving away from Luma3DS is too much of a hassle because that's the one CTGP-7 deems as the correct CFW.

Nintendo isn't fond of custom firmware, or CTGP-7 'messing' with their work, and yet, PabloMK7 mods the game to provide new enjoyment. That is the effect of what I did here.

The new update is simple:

Anything I worked on is removed, credits alongside them.
Actually, some contributions remain, I apparently never worked on Face Raider now.
I was never too fussed about credits anyway, I am just happy to see people enjoy my creations.

So what now?

I have since talked to PabloMK7, and he says there is nothing to be done. The characters are removed, and that is that, even if I were to delete my compatibility sysplugin. Which doesn't exactly inspire me to just do whatever he wants now.

There are sides to this, and it is what it is.
