Once I’ve copied the NAND/MLC partition etc. backup from the SD card to my PC can I delete them from the SD card? Any reason they need to be actually be on the SD card in the Wii U? Just trying to save on storage space.

For the case you brick your wii u, you can restore a nand backup only with a hardmod. That means you can delete the nand backup from the sd card when it's on your pc.
