The DVD drive on my Falcon was dead when I got it, I recently tried to swap the SPI flash with the drive key to another drive, but ended up cooking the chip:angry:

If I drop $60 on the R-JTAG kit (and don't f-up the install) will I be able to run games off my HDD (or an external HDD)?

You know someone else on here burned their chip up, and as a last resort sent it to me. I was able to dump it just fine with my X360USB Pro v2. What method are you using to read the key?

And yes you'd be able to do both of those things.

If you're not interested in XBLive then I should get an R-JTAG chip.

You also don't need to worry about reflashing your DVD drive anymore and burning games ;]

Thanks dudes, that's what I wanted to hear.

I did send the SPI chip to Teajunkie in the UK, but he was unable to retrieve my drive key. I guess at this stage in the 360s life not having Live is no real loss.
