Can games be played off a external drive?

I'm already running games through the goldhen hack 9.0........but my question is....can I actually play the games off of the external drive?.......because when installing the pkg files from the external drive.......it fills my ps4 internal drive full. I got maybe 10 games installed and my internal drive is full. I have to delete some games to be able to put another one on.
