Gambia, The
Dark_alex has left the scene.
We won't seen a new OE.
That sure is bad.

Bye, scene.

I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene.
The reasons are various.
One of them is the time it consumes, which i'm losing from other things.
The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers.
I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences.

Is this the end of the PSP homebrew ?

No one truly LEAVES any scene. He'll lurk and watch the advancements, and when something comes up that peeks his interest he'll return. Maybe as someone else or himself.

Even if he leaves now to 'avoid' the wrath of Sony he's still done some decent damage to their firmwares. So chances are if Sony wanted to get him, they can even without him putting anything else out.

None the less, he's not gone for good. =D

However, the impression I get is that the PSP is forever hacked thanks to the new Lumines exploit. I looked it up in my gut.

there goes the psp's life support machine

edit: don't really know what's going on, 3.51 OE was announced only yesterday, wtf is this shit.

edit again: the lumines exploit was "patched" in 3.51, apparently (though it's doubtful)

It's pretty crappy news.

Oh well the current firmwares out should suit the scene for a while yet and when new games are dumped that require new firmwares I'm sure somebody in the scene will make an effort to get them working.

Didn't DAX quit the scene once before...

normally that would be an anoying post, but being that most of us who have psp's already have a psone emulator to compliment our ds and everything else, it doesnt really mean much. i got psone on my psp, no more updates are needed as far as im concerned anyway.

ive got what i wanted, so hey the guy can take a break and live life. i thank him for everything hes done for the scene.

Why doesn't he leave the source code to the OE firmwares? That way someone can continue on with it and his great work will live on.

This really sucks, Dark_alex's hard work and OE firmwares are what make the PSP worth owning. I hope someone will continue where he left off, if only we had that source code.

Same thoughts exactly. While it's really sad to see him go, it's quite understandable somehow. It's always better to stop before it's too late.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
