Hey all. So for those of you that don't know, the PS3 supports custom music in games, however only a handful of games actually let you use this function (Supposedly it had something to do with Microsoft patenting the idea of custom music in games).
According to the PS3devwiki, by setting a flag in PARAM.SFO you can enable custom music in basically any game, and a plugin called the POC Plugin was also released which allows you to automatically enable custom background music from xmb. In theory all PS3 games could use custom xmb music since it's a firmware feature that just needs to be enabled in a game by game basis.
However, the PS3 dev wiki also warns that forcing custom music in certain SPU intensive games could result in problems, however it never specifies what those problems are.
My question here is twofold. First, is there any sort of compatibility list out there for forcing custom XMB music in games (I'm specifically interested in whether GTA4, Red Dead 1, and Metal Gear Solid 4 work with custom music)?
If not, could anyone tell me what some of the problems described by the PS3 dev wiki are? Does forcing custom XMB soundtracks only reduce performance/crash in incompatible games, or will it cause damage to the console itself such as overheating and possible system failure? Any insight and knowledge about this is greatly appreciated.
