Where do you get a gyarados and alakazam? I usually get owned by a gyarados against other trainers =\

38 staraptor
and other are hm fillers =(

Catch a Magikarp using Old Rod in any water you see, give it exp.share and when it gets to level 20 it will evolve to Gyarados.

(You can only level such a weakling with exp.share after all

and how come at serabii it says for machoke to evolve into machamp, it had some weird looking wire thing instead of a level?

You gotta trade Machoke with another player, and in the process it becomes Machamp. Then just trade it back and you got your Machamp.
