That's true.

The iEvo worked before the R4iDSN, it's just that the DSN was tested first.
This. The iEvo worked from the start with 3ds

As for as we know, the following work... (in order of which was working first, if wrong please correct me!)

1) CycloDS iEvolution > (Works on firmware v2.1+)
2) R4iDSN / R4i Gold
3) Acekard 2i > (Team Acekard will release after EUR 3DS is released)
4) Supercard DS2 > http://filetrip.net/f24214-Supercard-DSTWO-EOS-1-10.html
5) M3i Zero > http://filetrip.net/f24219-M3i-Zero-Core-1-7-2.html
6) Supercard DS1 > http://filetrip.net/f24233-DSONEi-Mini-3DS...rmware-1-0.html

Also if there is any patch/firmware that is needed to make it work on 3DS, please post it here so I can add to list
Which of those is the cheapest? I'd like to pick one up to use with my 3DS on launch but since new ones might be along in a few months that have 3DS mode I'd rather not spend a lot.

Cheapest I can find of those ($13.95 and ships from USA), and yes, they are real, not clones. It's where I got my Acekard, AKAIO has never once said my card is a clone.
Thanks, I don't mind shipping from Asia for cheaper. I can wait since I'll be playing most 3DS stuff for the first couple of weeks anyway.

I had always used Acekard in the past but I sold mine off when I sold my DS and DSi's recently. I doubt I'll use it much so even a cheap R4iDSN / R4i Gold would be fine. I'll be using it more to test out DS games on the 3DS than playing a lot of games. I imagine Nintendo might try blocking some of the DS mode flashcarts in an initial firmware update anyway.

Younreally think the current flash cards won't ever be able to support 3ds? I feel like a good one like the super ds2 is bound to work eventually.

Yes, that's my guess since it's an entirely different piece of hardware. If they can that would be brilliant but as far as I know it would be the first time in the history of console modding it's ever happened when a mod from a previous generation of hardware worked on the next generation. I'm surprised enough as it is that they even work in DS mode. Nintendo must either be getting lazy or they just don't care.

So if I'm just going for cheap, will this one work on a 3DS (for DS mode games)? I never realized there were so many versions of R4 out there, it's a bit confusing. I gather by the description it does support micro SDHC cards, although it calls that GOLD support for some reason?

Yes, it should work, but just know that R4 clones like that R4i Gold have veyr limited support, and few features comapred to Acekard and the like. If you want cheap, I'd advise Acekard 2i, it's $14 at gameplayfun.com, which doesn't sell clones and is a USA based retailer (as opposed to the normal China), and you'll also get much more features, and a much better development team.

To be honest stay away from the R4 and its clones. They don't generally have firmware updater so the next firmware update Nintendo puts out you'll be screwed.

I'd recommend in order of increasing cost, Acekard2i, SuperCard DS2, iEvolution. All these cards are currently well supported and have updateable bootloaders so you should be safe from future firmware updates.

Im looking at these cards and am on the fence... I don't have a dsi no more, however have a 3ds preorder and would like to have a flashcart ready even if it can only play ds at the time. However i hope it can play 3ds in the future. However if I am reading things right some of the flashcarts u need a dsi to update the firmware first in order to make it work on the 3ds, and since I don't have a dsi I cannot do that. Thats from what I gathered with the acekard2i firmware 1.4.1. I might be wrongs. However what card would be the best with updates and compatibility which works with 3ds without have to use a dsi in order to update the carts. If im wrong please clear this up and still give me a cart recommendation, i think i like acekard2i.
