Hacking cSM Sneak Peek!

well, i just bricked both of my wii's and had to send them to nintendo for repair...I made two $75.00 mistakes lol. Writing the installer was cake, but the patching function doesnt patch the recovery menu correctly...which unfortunately is the most fragile thing to patch at the moment because that's the first thing that's run at startup. ALL the other patches work fine through the installer, which sort of upsets me.

Either way, because of the recovery mode patch not patching correctly (for a reason beyond me, it patches just like the rest and ive triple checked my bytes) I've got two $250 disc spinners!

I think im going to wait for BootMii to be released so I don't have to worry about total brickage anymore...sorry guys. Im still going to be developing patches and such while my wiis are away, so development wont slow at all, just the release is going to be later. Im just glad my Brawl save is on my SD card from testing the nocopy flag removal...>.> /whew

My newest addition to prelude was allowing saves/channels to overwrite when copying, cause its kind of annoying having to delete it first before copying it over.

I just think most people expect you to spend all the money and you to do all the coding and just enjoy the fruits of your work free. (Okay, I guess this IS a pirate community lol) However in cases like this.. Well hell. You are doing good work. Dont let the occasional failure slow you down.

LOL... Wondering if nintendo sees all of this modding action when unbricking both your units. Would be nice to see those faces when browsing your NAND.

Good call, waiting for BootMii. Even with a fully functional installer, I bet lots of people will brick just by not carefully following instructions. (I've seen that many 'o' times with the psp).
How stupid it may sound, even when releasing software without warranty, devs like you have the moral obligation to make it as safe as can be. And you certainly feel the same way. Therefore the scene MUST support your decision to postpone the (prelude) release.

Hope you get your units back soon.

Sorry to hear about your bricks. I was really looking forward to your release exactly what i was looking for. Hope fully you get them both back soon. I think also it is a good idea to hold off till bootmii just to stop noobs popping up and having a go at you.

I didnt have a wii when these were being worked on though i do appreciate all of the effort that went into them.
Also i have become friends with Fors from coming on here and i feel there is a more personal level of assisatnce to his cause required... Im sure nintendo bricked a few as well , i havent donated to them either

I'm with djtaz on this. I didn't have a Wii when those apps were in development. Who's to say I wouldn't donate to them as well if they posted that they had bricked a Wii during further development? Except maybe to Team Twiizers who have BootMii to save their ass

But seriously, donations are a matter of personal choice and should not be questioned by others.

EDIT: oh wait can't you just use the gamecube emulator to test things for the wii on your computer? or does that apply to certain stuff?

Yeah its a pretty big hobby of mine, I enjoy it. I can still develop features and such while my wii's are away because I've got the system menu loaded in IDA. In my offtime im probably going to map out and investigate some new patch locations, document them and such the way i've been doing, so that when my wii's are back I can install my "System Dashboard" saving grace and continue my work.

Aside from that, visit the family for Thanksgiving and spend time with my girlfriend. oh, and relax
