Is there something here I'm not seeing? If that tiny, barely visible unless you look for it crack is the only problem you got with your Lite, you should be happy. As far as I know it doesn't affect the hinge in anyway and is only a cosmetic problem, and very small one at that. Dead pixels or faulty diagonals could be what your getting with your new Lite.

small cosmetic problems lead to bigger issues over time... a small rust spot on a car can lead to the entire panel corroding.
exactly! if it gets worse, just send it in.

I've said it before, there's no point in sending it in for repair/replacement until Nintendo announces what the problem is and when they will fix it. If it's all done silently, then I'll send mine in in about 10 months.

I read that they already admited that the problem was due to overtightening. If they did not admit the problem and have a fix for it they would not offer free repairs.

I've yet to see that info

I've got a crack. I just noticed it a while ago after reading it on maxconsole, and I nearly had a stroke! Anyways I'm just going to wait till someone starts selling replacement shells for the DS Lite, so I can get a black shell instead and do a few mods on my DS Lite. Can't wait for that to happen x]

Bump me but.. am i the only one that's notitcing that the cracking happens on the WHITE DS Lite only?
As far as i've seen all crack-pictures on the websites

There are more machines churning out whites, and those with blacks are not checking, since ppl are saying " it doesnt affect blacks". Since less people own blacks, there is also less chance those who own one will get a cracked one, if there are any.

I think once you have the crack, the stress on the console hinge and other areas is relieved, and you probably wont have any other problems relating to the cracks.

HOW LOVELY

just noticed a crack on mine to!!! im waiting on the UPS label and im sending this thing in.

got my g6lite today.. first day i playes more than 10-20mins ndslite today.. und what happend??
the crack starts... jut to 1/2 of the "way" but its already there...

Indeed I now have a crack as well....took a while, treat the unit like it was made of nitro glycerin and still slowly the crack developed. Pretty bummed I am....

If anyone is keeping score, I have a hinge crack on the left side, identical to the photo in the first post. I treat my DS like a baby and I have never opened it to 180 degrees, never past the first locking point.

Oh yeah I got it on launch day in Toronto.

I got the crack too. The ups shipping label is in the mail. As long as they fix it, I don't mind.

If anyone has received their DS back I'm curious about whether they repair the unit or replace it. And if it's replaced, is it with a brand new one or a refurbished one?

I don't know what I'm gonna do about my Hori screen protectors if I end up sending it in, I can't find a way to remove them without messing them up.

Well my DS Lite now has a crack in it too >_>.

I could send it into Nintendo but GAME (the place I bought it from) give a 2 year warranty on the DS Lite anyways, so I'll probably exchange it for a new one there for convenience sake.

The crack isn't an issue at the moment anyways so it can wait for the time being, and maybe there will be some new colours out by Christmas! ~_^;

Deaddy - Just use a bit of tape on a corner of the screen protectors to pull them off. It's a tad 'hit and miss' as the screen protectors stick quite firm to the screen but give it a few goes and you should be able to lift them off. =)

Thanks for the tip, but I have tried this repeatedly and they won't budge. It doesn't look like the tape is even remotely strong enough to pull them up. Maybe I need some stronger tape...

Hori protectors are supposed to come off, since they're non-adhesive. It makes it easy to clean and reapply =) You just have to keep trying...

I'm scared to send my DS in because I don't want the new one to have worse problems than a cosmetic one, like a bad D-pad (which they are reluctant to fix/WON'T fix)

Bad d-pad? Man, if this hinge crack doesn't cause further damage, like those fractures all over the R button, I guess it's safer to keep your cracked DS.

There was an earlier post about watching the crack when you open the lid and it flexes to show stress. I checked mine and the crack doesn't seem to react at all to opening and closing the lid. This would lead me to hope it'll be fine but who knows..

Do you think Nintendo (or a third party) will ever release replacement casings for the DS Lite, like the ones that exist for the DS Phat? That would take care of the "crack" problems.

Say no to crack!!!!
