Hi,

As it goes, I've been away for a long time and now trying to get back up to speed on how this all works.

The main issue I am having is my Pokemon Alpha Sapphire game cart (retail version) reports that my save game file is corrupted. I am trying to get it back. I am running Luma3ds. I think I was playing Alpha Sapphire before I installed Luma3DS, which I suspect has something to do with the save file becoming corrupt.

Searching around I found out that I can use FBI and JKSM to backup my save file, do something with my save file, then injecting it again. But I have to download JKSM via FBI titleDB, but that is giving me an error. So now I have to manually update FBI since the online updater is also giving me an error, and then I read something about injecting CIA into Health and Safety and I have no idea what that is and I forgot what injecting means. I am quickly getting lost and would appreciate some help. What I have managed to do is update Luma3DS to the latest version.

The titledb website was shut down 4 or 5 months ago so that is why it's not working in FBI and has been removed from latest version of FBI. The latest version of FBI also fixes the updater not working. As for injecting fbi/other apps into health and safety that is old information and is no longer needed.

Here is a link to JKSM

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire is one of the known games with anti-cheating save protection or Secure Value.

If you accepted to reinitialize the save data, your progress would be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

I've downloaded and installed JKSM. When I open the app, I get a different screen than what most people get. I don't have an "Export Save" selection, but a "Titles" selection. When you go in there, it shows my saves, but JKSM is unable to dump my Alpha Sapphire save. Any ideas?

Try Checkpoint instead. Another option is the official Nintendo SDK, SaveDataFiler (Look elsewhere due to ToS).

Sorry for your lose. :(

F

You can try to recreate your save. Just don't cheat by making hackmons with impossible stats and obtain items too early in the game progress.

And remember to make frequent backups of your saves + extdata from now on.
Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look into it. It's been so long that I don't remember what my save was like, and I wanted to go back for the nostalgia.

You might have a backup of your save on your computer you can check for that.
Yea I've looked. I have backups for other saves, but not Alpha Sapphire. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Wait a minute. There is a .dat file here that has an ID eerily similar to the title ID of ORAS. Could this be it? How do I restore it?

  1. Go to UserSaveData.zip20170719211007/000011c5/main.
  2. Relocate that file to sdmc:/3ds/Checkpoint/saves/0x011C5 Pokémon Alpha Sapphire/Zinic/main.
  3. Blah blah restore.

Thanks for your help. What is the extdata used for?
Extdata stands for, surprise surprise!, extra data. Other than fluffy bits, some games don't make their saves the normal way because of how large their save data are. Two well known examples are Minecraft and Monster Hunter Generations. It's best to treat extdata as an extension to saves than a separate set.
