I was just browsing Amazon Germany to see if they had the Xbox 25th Anniversary Controller and came across this...

Not only it doesn't actually work, it's just a "brick" set, but it also costs €330 that's just friggin' ridiculous.

At least it looks decent, and it has light and sound features, and it opens up to show little game dioramas, and a licensed Lego set of that size and piece count would cost closer to €400... On the other hand they could have at least used actual minifigs instead of immobile statuettes. Halo Mega Bloks had cool little minifigs that were pretty detailed and very articulated and posable. Shame the plastic turned brittle in contact with air and they all crumbled to dust eventually. But they were cool.

Anyway this is pure nostalgia bait for sad adults who now have disposable income but no time for gaming.

It's not even a question of "if" but rather "when". When Lego's Game Boy set came out someone managed to cram a Gameboy inside it within a week, and now there are kits you can buy online.

Erm...you've seen today's prices on Lego, lately? Things like a star wars millenium falcon, death star or a Hogwarts university set go for 700 euro's, and I've seen things that pass the 1000 euro mark. But that's not the insane thing...

It's that people BUY these things. Like...I understand the appeal to a degree, but not at these prices. It's like my fellow adults go insane for these bricks out of nostalgia or something.

But that aside: 330 euros is actually cheap value, and I'm not even exaggerating. Okay...it is expensive to me, but honestly: don't be shocked if that thing sells out quickly.

(final note: who did the price marketing on that one? 360 euro's seems like the ideal price there :tpi: )


(EDIT: perhaps I should mention that I've been given a miniature lego retro PC set by my colleague just today. So that whole "I don't care for Lego" is kind of hypocrite, because I love how it looks on this desk :P )

Those prices are just stupid and so are the people who buy them.

Lego was supposed to be for kids, but now it's for adult collectors or some crap.

I can't believe I'm saying this in a gamer forum, but believe it or not these Lego™ sets are for adults.

How many days before a Youtube video arrives with someone stuffing the innerds of an Xbox Series S in one of these?
 
I prefer my OG crystal edition with original tx lcd faceplate and x3 modchip and sata adapter with 2tb drive running cerbios. That controller looks chunky and uncomfortable. I put a bluetooth mod in mine for a wireless controller.

Yes. And RAM was supposed to be for gamers and (to a less important degree ;) ) for office workers, but here we are.


The best anekdote on this Legogeddon situation I've heard is that you can get...well, counterfeit lego, through Chinese retailers, for like half the price. My boss and his son got themselves a death star that way. So forget about the separated plastic baggies for the pieces or nicely outlined manuals...it was apparently just a single huge "ball" that contained all the pieces and a xerox'ed construction manual.
I asked: those pieces aren't compatible with "real" lego bricks.

I admit I was curious whether someone had built a steam machine in Lego. For some reason (or bad google-fu) nobody has yet done so. :P

(also: with "lego sets for adults", I'm imagining a sex doll constructed with lego bricks...WHICH I'M SURE SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE HAS BUILT!!!).

More like a quarter of the price or less.

I have been buying, ahem, third party building blocks, for years now, and while there are tons of options out there and you have to read the item description very very carefully depending on the seller, the knockoff sets are very much compatible with original Lego bricks. As for the rest of the problems, it depends on the set. Most come in sorted and numbered bags, but some do come in one single bag and you have to sort the pieces yourself before building. The manuals also depend on the manufacturer, some are great, some you need a magnifying glass to read. But I think half of my posts in the "Things you recently bought or got" are bootleg Lego sets and they were all perfectly fine.
