Hi,

Recently managed to ruin my SD card almost immediately after updating to the latest version of Luma/B9S. Now inserting into my 3DS or PC gives an error saying needs to be formatted. Before everyone asks, no I didn't do a full backup of the SD card (I was literally just about to...) but I do have an older backup though that's quite old so not sure if that could even work with the current firmware. I have managed to use some file recovery software and it appears many of the files are intact but so it's probably just an issue with the partition table. I'm not that interested in recovering any of the games etc, just critical files to get the system to boot again. Does anyone know exactly what the minimum requirements I need to get the system back up and running?

If the 3DS still recognizes the SD card,
If the 3DS doesn't see the card,

***

After data has been recovered or not,
  1. Quadruple reformatting.
  2. Full Write + Verify test the empty card using H2testw (Windows), F3 (Linux), or F3X (Mac).
    • Hardware test it to ensure long term reliability.
  3. CFW starter kit - If you want a fresh SD setup.
  4. And finally,

Awesome! Thanks for the advice from both of you. Since the 3DS is also refusing to boot the SD card had to use recovery software option. Already had the EaseUS program trial, which seems to be showing all the files so went ahead and purchased the full version. Now will try to recover the whole 32Gb SD and see what happens...
