Hi! I want to help, but I don't have the energy to recount EVERYTHING I did.

Take a look at the below two tutorials. Most of what I did came from there.
[Tutorial] From 9.2 (or any lower firmware) to CFW 4.5, without Gateway
[TUTORIAL] How to export/import Gateway Card1 .sav to eShop/3ds/3dz with SaveDataFiler

Go as far as you can yourself (either IRL, or just planning in your head) and then tell me if and where you get stuck, or if there's something you don't understand. I'll be happy to explain what I did from there.

Note: I have a second Old 3DS (In addition to the EU N3DS and the Old 3DS with my eShop and save games) that I used to install the CFW. I don't think this was necessary, but it was helpful to me as I didn't have to worry about losing my eShop games and/or saves in the installation process.

Edit: Also, be forewarned: had I known before starting how long it would take to transfer the save, I wouldn't have begun in the first place.

So I managed to follow your guidelines, CFW installed, bigbluemenu installed. Problem is I turned off the system and put the CFW SD Card in my PC and copied over the Filer folder with my eShop save and savedatafiler.cia then put the card back in my console and it never boots into CFW again. And before I added these files I could boot in CFW every single time. Any idea whats wrong?

True hehe

But I like the challenge and if this eventually works then we will finally have a solution for the community. In the long run im sure I'll benefit from other gateway saves that are available online

Honestly if I had to guess I'd say it's probably bad luck. The CFW successfully boots maybe 1 out of every 8 tries for me, if that much. I'm by no means a CFW expert though.

Prior to that I had that 100% success only when booting while holding L. Did you also keep trying to boot with L?

So I finally managed to boot it into CFW again, and install savedatafiler, but a new problem rises: Sky3DS isn't recognized! I tried to run it in both my system nand 4.2 and CFW 4.2 and it just doesn't show up... it is 100% working as I popped it again into my N3DS XL 9.0 and it works like a charm there... so my question is, how did you manage to boot it under CFW?

P.S. I have the blue button version, using latest diskwriter and template

That's so strange. I got Sky3DS works on CFW 4.5 and have been using it flawlessly. I confirm that it works like a charm.

I just realized I was being stupid all along. My O3DS is US as my N3DS is EUR so obviously the euro roms weren't recognized by the O3DS. Now I need to figure out how to run that region free trick under CFW....

Yeah, this is why I asked earlier if you were switching regions.

I can explain in more detail tomarrow if you need it (about to go to bed atm) but what I did was put the UK rom on my gateway, run the game once to generate a save, extract the gateway save using that savedatafiler tutorial, copy all the files from the extracted US folder (from before) to the extracted EU folder, and then inject EU folder/save to the Sky.

Also, even if your 3DS doesn't recognize the game because it's out of region, savedatafiler can still inject to it! Just use your UK system first to make sure the right game is selected.

I didn't think I was changing region since rom and save were EURO all along even though O3DS is US region.
So the eshop save created and the folder are EU or US? I'm not sure if this is determined by the rom or the console region.

Please do explain in detail tomorrow :-) thank you!

Oh, if the rom was european to begin with then it's easy.

As I said before, savedatafiler can inject the save even if the home menu can't detect it because it's out of region. Just use the UK 3DS beforehand to make sure the right game is selected.

And it WORKED!!!!

Thank you so much man! Thanks to you, we can now transfer most gateway savegames (up to 6.x ?) into Sky3DS, no matter the region. This does require an old 3DS (but no need for gateway). I really think you should write a guide and have it stickied!

Not "all". People already told you that this only works in non-6.x games.

What if I do the first conversion (from .sav to eShop format) under EmuNand 9.5 and then convert the eShop save back to cartridge/sky3ds under CFW 4.x? would this still not work for 6.x+ games?
