I think taht this type of service could be possible in another couple of years when bandwidth becomes cheaper but right now, it is simply unfeasible in places such as Australia.

Let alone Lebanon.

So, this is like satellite television with games instead of tv content? And it eliminates the System requirements and even a crappy netbook can run all those new games if they have a really fast connection? I like the idea but I cant help but think that this may be a failure since bandwidth costs so much in my country and others and many have limits. This may work well in the future when mega-high speed Internet connections are available at an a affordable price.

Not really, I doubt the world is ready for something like this.

The entire world is moving into the cloud, why wouldn't gaming? Console gaming may be very resilient but as the definition of what we consider a "computer" and the rate at which the shapes sizes and the applications of new technologies and devices are being implemented, in a decade console gaming will be obsolete. Doing all the hard work from central servers and basically using the "PC" as display and control mechanism allows much simpler hardware to run very complex applications. As many of you have stated CURRENT internet speeds are not sufficient to fully utilize or implement this strategy, but in the future when proper infrastructure is built this is what gaming will become.

JUST IMAGINE THE QUALITY OF GAMES THAT WILL BECOME PLAYABLE ON HANDHELD DEVICES BEFORE SHOOTING THIS IDEA DOWN

From their FAQ...

OnLive requires 1.5Mbps for SD-resolution
They used to state either 3 or 5 (can't remember) for HD, but they've since removed that.

That's 187.5 kilobytes per second. At 30 frames per second, that's 6.25 kilobytes of data per frame, which has to include the audio as well.

It's going to be pretty interesting to see the type of compression they use.

EDIT: Oops, I can't read, it says 5Mbps for HD. 625 KB per second, 20.83 KB of data per frame at 30FPS.

nah... I do not like to game on my p.c., my nintendo 64, my dsi and my gba/gbc are enough...

and how that is presenting this thing... if it is the best thing on the world!(it is not!) my t.v. ownz!

Almost no more needs for a console at this time period... in the future that is

edit: isn't brain chips going to far?

It wouldn't supprise me if Nintendo, or any other company took a look at this an laughed.

Besides, this would kill off my job at work. So I am totally against it.

Besides, hasn't every other attempt at this sort of thing failed? It seems that way to me.

it's fucking useless here than we can't even go up to 5mb/s highest we can achieve (if your lucky to even get this i have this connection but max at 1.1mb/s) is 2.4mb/s! they better not even bring it here cos it will be a big loss to them

We don't have either bandwidth here, plus i think we/they should worry more about latency issues.

Man, I signed up for a beta program and they never got back to me. But I guess I wasn't expecting anything. Anyway, I've been following this since... was it E3 2008? Not sure, but it looks interesting. I'm a huge PC gamer, so this sounds cool, yet we'll have to see how it is when it comes out. In the tech demo I saw it really looked like it was coming along quite well. Of course, they just do that for publicity, but it's something!

Ever heard of adsl2+? That more then suffices at up to 24mb/s. I dont have very fast internet and i have 4 mb/s
