Configurable has steadily become *the* loader. I started using it b/c it had the options required to make rock band and such work...
- An on-screen clock
Don't really see the need
- changeable, scalable font(s)
Already have it. Use WiiBuilder to create the fonts.
- file locking, so that manually corrected images (RR2) or code lists (AC:LGttC) don't get updated with bad stuffs, or a local-preferred mode, like the stuff with titles.txt
Don't really see the need
- an in-loader configuration
This loader has too many options as it is. I don't see the new settings screens having much more than what is currently there.
- start loader on last game selected
This is a valid request
- screensaver-like random game art flipper mode after xx minutes untouched (in graphicy modes), screen dimmer after yy minutes
This is a valid request
- the artist and track tag info at the beginning/end of songs
Don't really see the need
- a metadata field that could show the age rating, metacritic score, genre, custom text, description, or something like that, could be internet-magicified?
WiiTDB support is on the list
- custom image load on game highlight (like a translucent bacground overlaid screenshot or GIANT background coverart when the game is in under the cursor, with transitions)
Don't really see the need
- an option where the default controller is held like Super Paper Mario, (NES style) ...then it can go back to pointer mode on the fly if it sees the sensor bar, and 1 & 2 mimic A & B
Don't really see the need
- analog scroll speed control with the 'chuk or the CC's sticks
Don't really see the need
- disc loader, HBC loader, Channel loaders (like each was a game box)
Don't see the need for HBC loading
- DVD player (from the same slot as the disc loader)
Use MPlayer
Well, the point of a clock is to tell the time! In all seriousness, I fail to see the 'need' of themes, the 5 3d modes, the changeable fonts, or anything aside from the options that improve game compatibility, etc., HOWEVER they are really nice! Most of the parts replied to above with 'don't see the need' come from the idea that CUSBL has, to some degree, started to replace the system menu: It provides fast access to a large portion of the Wii's functionality, and is a pleasant, stable and useful environment to leave running between games.
However leaving it on between games makes one do without certain features of the original System Menu, such as clock. And exiting is required to access more wii tools.
Additionally, since the Loader gives immediate access to "the place with all the games to do stuffs" adds a layer of complexity to the Noobs (wife, neighbor, kinds etc.). The wife for example, cannot comprehend why wiiware, an iso image, dvd, a actual disc and a vc (from SD) have several steps, clicks, areas and a possible reboot between them. And, really, I don't think she is too far out think the flow could be streamlined somewhat. I'm not sure how much of that is technically possible though.
To the Keep it Simple, Silly philosophy, I generally agree. But, Configurable is in first word in the name, and all those things are just ideas, options that could be turned off... I like to think of K.I.S.S. as the way to build a strong foundation, but then I am not a coder, really, and I'm still tickled with the app like it was at v.38
Its all gravy from here out.
p.s. the mp3 track info is because people keep asking what the songs are whn they come over, but honestly, all the stuff from Final Fantasy is starting to sound the same...
