[*]Less emphasis on speed and more on platforming

But then you've just got mario. More speed, faster faster (pussykat), give it the whip!!
I disagree. The newer 2D Sonic's are a HELL of a lot faster than the original mega drive ones. The 16bit games had great levels and platforming, with very very few bottomless pits. The new games levels emphasise more on running fast, grinding and doing tricks.

I agree, forget lame music with lyrics about how Sonic is going to find the Chaos Emeralds and stop Dr. Robotnik. We need something like Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I loved the Adventures series because they took so many hours (+120) to pass with an A rank on every level. One of the best GameCube titles would have to be SA2:B if you are able to ignore some of it's minor defects. But with the 2-D series they really need to stick with the classics.

One problem I had with Sonic Rush and Sonic Advance 2-3 was that all I seemed to do is just press right and jump a few times, I'd like to see some block pushing and lever pulling like in the original MD games.

Anyway lets not get ahead of ourselves, remember this is just a rumour that has come from Sega patenting the titles "Sonic Rush Adventure" and not all name patents ever get used. Example, Nintendo have patented a lot of Gameboy names like Gameboy Extreme and so on. And even if the name does appear it may not just be a DS title.

i think that sonic team just touched bottom with sonic for 360 and ps3
and that "glorious back" with secret rings for the wii its just mediocre.
in fact sonic for wii its one of the most overrated games ever i would
give it the same score as the 360 game.

SO PLEASE SONIC TEAM ITS EASIER TO GO RIGHT THAN TO GO WRONG

-NO FRIENDS! (WELL I LIKE KNUCKLES AND TAILS BUT NOT THEIR VOICES)
-NO REALISTIC GRAPHICS ... I MEAN FUCK SEGA SONIC ITS A CARTOON CHARACTER ITS NOT LIKE
ALF WITH CARTOONY LOOK IN THE MIDDLE OF HUMANS.
-YES 3D BUT A NICE 3D TRANSITION LIKE MARIO 64
-NO STORY
-NO DRAMA... COMMON GUYS HIS A FUCKING HEDGEHOG.
-MORE STYLE (THOSE FUCKING POLICEMAN FROM THE 360...ITS THAT A JOKE?)
-STOP THAT STUPID ATTITUDE ITS JUST STUPID...

i mean there are sometimes when i play the games that i wonder... what the hell where those guys
thinking ... did they really really thought that was cool? maybe sonic team its formed by talented
people who make stupid choices.

Glad to see someone else wasn't impressed with Secret Rings. It would have been good if you didn't spend half your time going through menus to do the next stupid little mission just to unlock a new full stage level.

I hated the Secret Rings and I'm a big fan of most Sonic games. I thought it was slow, tedious. boring (at one point in the level I wasn't even doing anything and Sonic was blasting through the stage) and just not much fun.

GOD THOSE BOTTOMLESS PITS! They were the only reason I didn't play past level 2 in Rush. Kept hitting that one fucking bottomless pit. Fuck you you stupid pit.

And these new games - GBA and DS - are so much faster than the originals for the Genesis. I played those to death and there's so much more you can do when you have the time to look around and look for the emeralds and shit. I'm not even sure if theres emeralds in the new ones because its a start to finish type game.

If they're so into speed, then why not make Sonic Track & Field! Get rid of all that stupid scenery and stuff because you don't even explore it anyways. And instead of the hurdles you could have the baddies or something. Like seriously Sega, get a clue.

When playing sonic most of the time your just pressing a directional button. Its very boring

. I enjoyed the dreamcast ones and obviously te classic ones. :'(

Once thing we have to give to the Sega Team and it's that the first level of every game always looks beautiful and is almost playable, like that greek stage in Sonic Heroes, Emerald Island in Sonic 3, etc...
I still mis Emerald Island oh! and the music in Carnival Night in S3 (very Michael Jacksony).

Sonic and knuckles 3 was the best sonic I ever played.

The mega drive sonic had some decent leval design, thats what made them so good. And the turning hyper sonic at will was awesome.
Sonic rush was aight, but it wasnt nearly as good as the genasis. 2d sonics are way better than 3d sonics...

Remember these spinning f*ckers?

I got stuck on that damn level for ages because I didn't know how to skip that thing!

Sonic always had bottomless pits, but you didn't often fall into them simply because the levels were always so multi-layered and non-linear. They also weren't put in pathetic places so you didn't have to memorize such and such a jump to get it just perfect and not fall.
sonic one was more about spike pits

Ah! brings back good memories! At that time Tails was my favourite character, but that was before I could hear his voice.

That part of the game was quite controversial, so much that it's even mentioned in the Wikipedia, but somehow I figured out the way to get out of it by intuition (or by chance).

Also, the music in that level is a remix of Jam by Michael Jackson and it's one of my favorites. Not that I'm a MJ fan, but still. He was suposed to collaborate in the music but it was scrapped of because of his scandals, but some of his producers stayed in the project.

IGN has a new preview and a few new screens here.

Sounds like its same as Rush. Blaze the Cat is back too, which I don't mind really as she was good to play, sounds like shes the only other character other than Sonic you ply. I just hope they don't bother with a story!

Story is good, as long as there's no dialog (both audio and text).
The original Sonic games conveyed the story through the game - such as dropping the emeralds at the start of Sonic 3 only to have Knuckles scoop them all up. It doesn't need to be deep (in fact it's a whole lot better when it's not) - that's not what Sonic was ever about. However a few short in-game cutscenes (without dialog remember) can set the scene nicely and let the player work out for themselves what is going on. Just take a look at most of the 2D Mario games for instance, a bit of jumping up and down and possibly some "hmms" and "yahoos" (in the case of later games) convey what Mario is thinking perfectly. Even Mario & Luigi on GBA managed to cut down on lengthy dialog a whole heap by employing such tactics, and it worked out really well. Trying to tack on a story is probably also where Mario Sunshine went a bit wrong. Remember these are not "deep" characters in any way - why try and make them such?

I agree thats what I meant by no story, story is fine I hate any dialog in any Sonic game.

I'm hoping the music is more like Rush and not like Secret Rings or the 3D ones.

Someone needs to make a full-speed w/ sound Genesis Emu for the DS so we can play all the good Sonic games without waiting for Sonic Team.

The checkered cylinders in the Carnival Night Zone can be passed by standing still on them and pressing up and down in conjunction with the cylinder's movement.
