xD Awesome, though there are a couple ways to make a commercial rom loading moonshell2 now, you might have to research a little (in Normatt's crack and in Xenon++'s bypass).
I know Xenon++'s bypass and have applied it with my own guide and I have a fully auto-booting and commercial ROM loading R4 now. I still have to ask his permission though to integrate his guide with this one. I'll post the guide when I do! Dunno about Normmatt's though...if he uses Acekard, I don't have one, and will need help with that XD
...long time no see jurassicplayer, nice to see you still here
WB BlackIris: FYI - there's a method now to get Acekard 2i to boot STRAIGHT into Moonshell2 without getting YSMenu/AKAIO to 'autoboot' Moonshell [like in my original guide] which I'm currently testing out (I'm actually waiting for some1 to reply to a request first as well - & it's not Xenon++
) - I know this is a YSMenu guide, but due to the rumor I've heard of YSMenu bricking acekards I thought I'll just let you know about this
The only downside to it is it only works with MS 2.09 (& possibly MS 2.10Beta9 - but that's gotta be checked out) and AKAIO 1.5.1
[I'm hoping that when AKAIO 1.6 'Final' comes out certain 'fixes' are updated so we can update to latest MS & AKAIO without problems]
Alright! I'll just check around and see for myself about this Acekard method. It's really hard though to know for sure if it works since like I already mentioned, I don't have an Acekard. Oh well, thanks for that CannonFoddr; I'll keep myself updated!
It's a package that contains the loaders, fixes & DLDI patching of Xenon++ and Normmatt's already set up to allow Moonshell to start up without starting AKAIO first
It's a simple case of Download / Unzip / Copy over - No Patching/Editing/Renaming required
I've tried it out on a Acekard 2i (HW:44 [Actel chip]) on both a DSLite and DSi & it work but I really need more Acekard2i users to try it out
Supposedly not since there isn't a commercial rom loader that we can link to for the M3 team's stuff (maybe it works with the M3Simply). Since I don't think it can use ysmenu, Moonshell2 is stuck as the most awesome media player in the history of DS homebrew whilst using it on the iTouchDS.

aw man. couldn't you somehow link it to the rom loader of itouchds firmware itself?
If Xenon++'s new inilink works how I'm imagining it works, you might be able to link it to the rom loader of iTouchDS...though iTouchDS would need to have the autoboot feature.
Do you have the nds extlink? Which version of moonshell2 are you using? (Having the folders hidden when using moonshell2 doesn't change anything about being able to load nds files or not...its a default setting, you can hide or change what folders are hidden by going to the hidden.ini in moonshl2 folder...at least I think it was called hidden.ini)

It started loading something but didnt seem to get anywhere... so I turned it off and somehow it corrupted something...
Sorry for being so noobish but is there a way to fix this or will I have to redo the whole guide?
I am moving the old guide to this post, for the guide in the first post will have some updating done. Forgive the huge post. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

-CannonFoddr's Guide link updated!
-helpwithr4's tip added!
-Soft-reset statistics updated!
You might've noticed I copied the format of another guide, but anyhow, <b>do not duplicate this guide without my consent.</b>
Thanks to all the fellow users who provided information in <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=149579" target="_blank">this thread</a>, and since this might come handy for others in the future, I made a guide on how to load commercial ROMs with MoonShell 2.
<b>Confirmed Working With Auto-boot On: Acekard 2/AKAIO, DSTT/i, R4 Original
Confirmed Working On: Acekard 2i, Supercard DSOnei
Confirmed Not To Work On: EDGE
Unconfirmed: R4 Clones
</b>
<b>Extra Note:
People, please be specific when you say that it doesn't work. Mention the flashcart you're using & each (and every) relevant step you took while following this guide. It will make it much easier to solve the problem, thus making this guide as effective as possible.</b> In other words, it's for the better ^^;
Thanks in advance.

<b>What Is Needed</b>
YSMenu
MoonShell 2.00
A YSMenu-enabled flashcart
DLDI Patching
YSloader plugin
____________________
<b>Download Links</b>
YSMenu = <a href="http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/" target="_blank">http://home.usay.jp/pc/etc/nds/</a>
-Direct linking and mirrored files aren't allowed by Yasu, so just Ctrl+F "YSMenu" and get the most recent version.
-AKAIO users have two methods of using this guide: 1) Using Normmatt's Loader & 2) Using YSMenu. Normmatt's Loader does not require YSMenu at all to be installed, but it can only load NDS files at the root (or so I've heard) YSMenu's compatibility with games isn't as good as Normmatt's Loader. (unless it's updated)
MoonShell 2.00 = <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=139532" target="_blank">http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=139532</a>
-GBAtemp Thread to the most recent "GBAtemp-official-English" version of MoonShell 2.
-Also, if you download the complete package you might already have the required DLDI file thanks to a folder called AutoDLDIPatch folder in the misctools section. In other words, you can skip downloading the DLDI file since most all of them are provided already. <b>(also, this was where I found the DSTT DLDI, and not in the following DLDI page.)</b>
DLDI = <a href="http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/" target="_blank">http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/</a>
-I suggest you download the GUI version of the program and the required DLDI file if you don't already use other ways of patching.
-I highly suggest checking the AutoDLDIPatch folder of your MoonShell 2 package to see if what you'd be looking for is already there - or ONLY there.
linoul's YSloader for MoonShell 2 = <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=5030" target="_blank">http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=5030</a>
-If not for this, this wouldn't be possible. Much thanks to linoul. \o/
-This is the general YSloader to be used as a plugin to make YSMenu load games directly. Use this unless it doesn't work, or your flashcart/firmware is said to use a different loader.
Unneon's Alternate YSloader = <a href="http://www.easy-share.com/1904954428/Unneon" target="_blank">http://www.easy-share.com/1904954428/Unneon</a>
-Alternate YSloader; reportedly faster than linoul's.
-Also includes an "Exit To Firmware" file that you may rename to what your soft-reset file may be, corresponding to your flashcart. It loads YSMenu.
-Reported not to work on DSTT 1.17. (Apparently doesn't work with 8GB MicroSDs, in general)
-According to helpwitr4, this loader removes errors when loading certain ROMs.
Normmatt's AKAIO Loader = <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=138693" target="_blank">http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=138693</a>
-Only for those using the AKAIO firmware.
r4denc = <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=1081" target="_blank">http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=1081</a>
-Required tool for the R4 Original method.
R4Ysauto = <a href="http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=103879" target="_blank">http://www.gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=103879</a>
-Required tool for the R4 Original method.
Panasonic SDformatter = <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4003" target="_blank">http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4003</a>
-Not mandatory but highly recommended when using this guide with large capacity MicroSDs (> 2GB) for people who use DiskCheck or just to ensure functionality.

<b>General Instructions</b>
1) Extract the "moonshl2" directory and "moonshl2.nds" to the root of your flashcart. These are the only real required files to get MoonShell 2 to work. Of course, you can extract the others for more features.
2) DLDI-patch moonshl2.nds with your corresponding flashcart's DLDI file.
3) Extract the "nds.YSloaderForMS2.nds" and "config.ini" files from linoul's package to the /moonshl2/extlink folder. If you're using an alternate loader, extract only the "nds.-insertloadernamehere-.nds" file to the extlink folder unless told otherwise.
4) From here, follow the specific instructions given for your flashcart. Also, please take note that this guide was created based on MoonShell 2.00 Beta 10. Therefore, <b>whenever "moonshl2.nds" is mentioned for patching and/or renaming purposes, it is actually "moonshl2_DirectBoot.nds" that is being referred to.</b>
<b>R4 Instructions</b>
1) Extract the files of the r4denc package on your desktop.
2) Copy your R4-DLDI'd moonshl2.nds from the root of your card to the r4denc directory.
3) Drag moonshl2.nds over r4enc.exe. This will produce a file called "moonshl2.nds.DAT".
4) Rename moonshl2.nds.DAT into "_DS_MENU.DAT".
<i>For users of Windows XP/etc., the .DAT extension might automatically be hidden. In this case, open any explorer window, go to "Tools", "Folder Options...", "View", check the Advanced Settings panel and remove the check from "Hide extensions for known file types." Keep it this way for now.</i>
5) Copy _DS_MENU.DAT to the root of your card. From here, you can choose to overwrite R4's original _DS_MENU.DAT firmware file or just rename it to something else and keep it as backup. What matters is you get the renamed _DS_MENU.DAT at the root of your card.
<i>Okay, now you can change it back. Follow the extra steps in the previous step and put the check back. It might get annoying when you're renaming files, so it's recommended you just keep the extensions hidden unless you discover you have an everyday use for them.</i>
6) Create a new directory on your desktop called "r4ysauto".
7) Extract the contents of the r4ysauto package you downloaded into this directory.
8) Copy the YSMenu package you downloaded from Yasu's site into the r4ysauto directory.
9) Run r4config.bat and answer the questions accordingly. Anyhow, these are my answers:
<i>
Language: EN
Flashcart: R4
Overwrite: Yes
Skin: No
YSMenu Language: EN
Ways To Install YSMenu: 4
Automatic Updates: Off
</i>
10) Rename the YSMenu package you copied to the directory as "YSMenu0810211800.zip".
11) Run r4.bat. This will produce "R4_custom_English.zip".
12) Extract the files of this archive into the root of your card.
13) Create a new directory called "ysmenu" at the root of your card.
14) Move the YSMenu.nds you extracted from the R4_custom_English archive into the ysmenu directory.
15) DLDI-patch YSMenu.nds.
Special Note:
For R4 Clones in general, I am not sure if this method will work. Therefore, I also kept sprogurt's, HoTsHoT89's & Montevieau's original posts intact.
<b>DSTT/DSTTi Instructions</b>
1) Create a folder called ysmenu on your desktop.
2) Extract the files from the YSMenu archive into the ysmenu folder you just made.
3) Copy TTMENU.DAT from the official firmware package (or from the root of your card) into the ysmenu folder.
4) Run "ttextract.exe". This will produce two files: "ttdldi.dat" & "ttpatch.dat".
5) Move these files into the root of your card.
6) Create another ysmenu directory, but this time in the root of your card.
7) Move the YSMenu.nds from the ysmenu directory on your desktop into the ysmenu directory in your card.
8) Rename the original DSTT firmware file TTMENU.DAT into something else as backup or delete it if you want.
<i>For users of Windows XP/etc., the .DAT extension might automatically be hidden. In this case, open any explorer window, go to "Tools", "Folder Options...", "View", check the Advanced Settings panel and remove the check from "Hide extensions for known file types." Keep it this way for now.</i>
9) Rename your DSTT-DLDI'd moonshl2.nds into "TTMENU.DAT".
<i>Okay, now you can change it back. Follow the extra steps in the previous step and put the check back. It might get annoying when you're renaming files, so it's recommended you just keep the extensions hidden unless you discover you have an everyday use for them.</i>
10) DLDI-patch YSMenu.nds.
Special Note:
When I tried this on a DSTT that has never run the original firmware before, it gave an error. Then I ran the original firmware, and then renamed it back to this setup; it worked.
Just in case, make sure you've ran the original DSTT firmware file at least once.
<b>Acekard 2 Instructions</b>
1) Create a folder called ysmenu on your desktop.
2) Extract the files from the YSMenu archive into the ysmenu folder you just made.
3) Copy akmenu4.nds from the official firmware package (or from the root of your card) into the ysmenu folder.
4) Run "akextract.exe". This will produce "akloader.nds".
5) Create a ysmenu directory at the root of your card.
6) Move the recently created akloader.nds into the ysmenu directory in your card.
7) Move the YSMenu.nds from the ysmenu directory on your desktop into the ysmenu directory in your card.
8) Rename the original Acekard 2 firmware file into something else as backup or delete it if you want.
9) Rename your AK2-DLDI'd moonshl2.nds into the name of your original firmware file.
10) DLDI-patch YSMenu.nds.
Special Note:
Like the AKAIO guide, you can still use AKAIO as alternate ROM loading firmware instead of YSMenu by following Step 5 (RPGS.nds).
<b>Acekard 2 - AKAIO Instructions</b>
<b>Warning: Please direct questions to Vampirex, the original creator of this guide. As already stated in the Acekard 2 Instructions, I myself do not have an Acekard 2.
This guide is confirmed to work with Acekard 2 v2.1, AKAIO 1.4.1 & Normmatt's AKAIO Loader.</b>
1) Rename akmenu4.nds to akmenu4.nds.bak as a backup AKAIO menu.
2) Run AutoDLDIPatch.exe in the misctools folder of the Moonshell 2 package. The result should be that you get a file called "moonshl2_DirectBoot_AK2_Acekard 2.nds".
3) Rename it to "akmenu4.nds".
4) Copy the file akmenu4.nds.bak to /moonshl2/resetmse/ on your card.
5) Rename akmenu4.nds.bak to "RPGS.nds". This will allow you to soft-reset from MoonShell 2 into the AKAIO firmware.
TIP: You can exit MoonShell 2 and load AKAIO using "Exit To Firmware". Soft-resetting in AKAIO will then lead you back to Moonshell 2. (using L+R+A+B+DOWN)
Also, you can return to MoonShell 2 from AKAIO without the need of soft-reset. Just go to the \__aio folder and edit the file globalsettings.ini, and delete akmenu4.nds from the hiddenFileNames; now ak4menu.nds (which is the MoonShell 2 loader) won't be hidden within AKAIO anymore. Now you can run akmenu4.nds within AKAIO to return to Moonshell 2 easily.
<b>Special Note:
Acekard 2 users, if both guides above do not work for you, you may find more information in a separate thread by Vampirex himself <a href="http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=152660" target="_blank">over here.</a></b>
<b>Confirmed Working On Category</b>
Flashcarts placed in this category are those who have a solution and work great, but lack certain requirements that the other guides have. Until a complete solution is found, they will only be linked to through this section.
Need cheats to get past AP (anti-piracy) points and etc.?
Since there have been users wanting to run YSMenu normally so they could enable cheats, linoul & Airth have provided ways to do so.
<b>linoul's Way - A simple button press</b>
Simply select any NDS file, and the hold down B while it boots.
<b>Airth's Way - Substitute NDS file</b>
1) Create a new text document.
2) Rename it to "YSMenu.nds" from "New Text Document.txt". Note that the extension was intentionally changed from ".txt" to ".nds". Renaming doesn't work? For more information, check Step 4 of the R4 Guide.
3) Place the dummy YSMenu.nds you just made (which is just an empty text document) anywhere in your card; usually the applications folder.
Special Note:
Airth's method takes advantage of the fact that if YSMenu cannot boot an NDS file, it will simply boot YSMenu normally.
Here are videos made by kermitfrog & Vampirex to further show you that cheats CAN work with this guide, with just a bit of tweaking!
And last but not least, a <i>friendly</i> R4 tip from krnxmatt7:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->For those who have an R4 (or for those who experience this problem as well), are your cheats not working? Before you go, "omgz, dis ysmenu/monshel combo broke mai cheatin capabilities i hat joo", STOP. It didn't. YSmenu not only uses a different cheat file, it is placed in a different folder as well.
For those who don't need me to spell out each step:
- Use USRCHEAT.DAT and place it in the "TTmenu" folder. Done.
Baby-Steps:
1.) Take a look at the root of your microSD.
2.) See that folder, "TTmenu"? Go to it.
3.) Here. This folder is where you place the cheat file. That's it.
<b>REMEMBER: YSmenu uses USRCHEAT.DAT, NOT CHEAT.DAT</b><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<b>Soft-Reset Statistics</b>
The soft-reset function is one that is already in many, if not all, the flashcarts currently available in the market. By pressing a specified button combination (might differ with each flashcart), you will be able to return to your firmware <b>within a game</b>.

<b>Tips & Tricks</b>
1) If your original firmware file can come in the form of a seperate NDS file, you can always rename that to anything and place it anywhere on your card; this is for people who want to be able to access the original firmware from MoonShell 2.
2) MoonShell 2's "Exit To Firmware" function runs whatever NDS file is named after your card (EDGE.nds, TTIO.nds...) and is located in the moonshl2/resetmse directory. Therefore, you can replace the file with your card's original firmware or any other application you'd like to be able to access through "Exit To Firmware" by simply renaming it.
3) krnxmatt7: For those who have an R4 (Or, if you experience this problem on other flashcarts), have you even went into YSmenu to select cheats (or just YSmenu in general), but all of the font was disfigured? As in most of the text was unnecessarily capitalized, and when you selected cheats, the touch screen only said, "HELP_CHEAT"? Look, here is a fix to that problem.
1. Look at the root of your microSD.
2. See the folder, "ysmenu"? Go to it.
3. Now, in that folder, you should see "ysmenu.nds" and a "YSmenu" Configuration Settings file. Open that up in notepad.
4. Copy this long-ass text into it: (Yes, all of it.)

If all instructions are followed correctly, then you will now be able to run commercial ROMs with MoonShell 2 by using YSMenu. :yayds:
Again, may there be any errors in details or steps that need correction, go all out and post 'em all here! It'll definitely help. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lecture.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="lecture.gif" />

5) Copy "nds.mshl2wrap.nds" & "mshl2wrap.ini" into the directory "\moonshl2\extlink" found in the root of your MicroSD. Move "nds.yslaunch.nds" into the same directory.
Once I did that I checked to see if it worked which it did thank god, however I added a new ROM so I ran ndslink.bat again to make a new shortcut for that ROM. Alas it gave me an error.
Turns out that "nds.mshl2wrap.nds" & "mshl2wrap.ini" need to stay on the root while they also have to be copied into '\moonshl2\extlink', and while you did say 'Copy' I think some people might get confused.
Thanks overall though and great guide, I can finally launch these games from MS2 :]
@MasterTime
Thanks for the link! I will update the guide with that one.
@KiroKun
IKR. I also got corrected on that before, which is why I said "copy" instead of "move". I'll make it clearer this time around though, since people might get confused like you said. ^^; Thanks for the correction, and I'm glad you can finally launch ROMs!
