Gaming Chrono Trigger working fine until...

I'm using an M3 Simply, and I used the non-M3 Real code in the cheat database, and the game worked fine. However, I got to the part where Chrono is attacked by Lavos and dies (right after finishing the underwater palace) and then there is a scene where Lavos comes out of the ground and shoots beams into the air. The beams hit the floating city. Right after the first wave of beams, my game freezes. I don't know why, since I have the code active and everything...and I've tried the other code as well (the M3 Real version), but neither work.

Has anyone else had this problem? Or does someone know a solution? Thanks!
