Hacking Cheating on EZ3in1?

I have an M3 Simply and an EZ3in1. I'm using EZ4client 1.03 to patch my GBA roms for the 3in1, and I'm trying to take advantage of the cheat adding option. I made a .cht file for a GBA rom and patched it using EZ4client, but when I play the game instead of infinite ammo and health, etc. I just have glitches. Is this maybe because I have an M3 Simply instead of an EZ4?

I do know about the alternative cheating methods of IPS patches and trainers, but there aren't trainers for many GBA games. Is there a way to make my own IPS patches maybe?
