Many other pieces of commercial software are still freely available... for now

You didn't hear the rumors? That the new, 11.8+ method for downloading non-system titles (requiring a signed ticket as login) would probably be enforced sooner or later? :)

I can corroborate this, the server is returning a 403 (forbidden) error trying to download that title.
The end is nigh, my friends. I'm glad I prepared.

Panic begins to set in for the pirates that slacked on hoarding for this day.

Yeah, it's slowly but surely blocking more titles, even USA titles now.

Some stuff I've seen 403 errors on now:
    - Fire Emblem Series Games
    - Kirby Series Games
    - Animal Crossing Games
    - Super Mario Games

I give it 24 hours or so before the whole server is returning 403 for non-free titles.

So essentially this is the end for Freeshop, and will probably soon also be for the Cdnsp Downloaders for the switch?

Unfortunately several of them aren't online since nobody ever bothered to download a cia of them because "why bother, we will always have freeshop and it is much easier to just use freeshop".

So while this would stop freeshop. One could still download things manually and install a cia right?

    From non-Nintendo sources, of course

Of course, why wouldn't that work. That's how it worked for ages before Freeshop was a thing.

Unless someone organizes a ticket-sharing affair (and produces appropriate downloading software to use it)

I doubt this would last long, since Nintendo could just revoke the console-/nnid-unique tickets.

Too bad for them; luckily some people, one of whom I know personally since I was born have downloaded large parts of the 3DS eShop while they still could

Now someone just needs to put up a mirror of Nintendo's CDN...

They said the same about private headers and localfriendcodeseeds; as long as people aren't too greedy (ironic, given the audience of these websites) it would work (imagine splitting the demand using a large pool of signed tickets for the same title)
